Yeah thanks I was trying to figure out how to change the res, but i got switchxres as suggested and it works perfectly, damn is that screen nice. Still don't have any audio though, so I guess we're waiting on a proper ALC262 driver??

All I need now is wireless and sleep. Proper brightness control would be nice too.

I could use the sleep function as well but sadly its not doable. But its ok just turn the tz off for the day when ur not using it. As for wireless just buy the the dell wireless draft n 1500 card which is made by broadcomm which runs natively on osx86,i already ordered mine and still waiting for it to arrive. Funny thing is that im on ethernet ona ultraportable. But im currently on my inlocked iphone via tmobile :) unlocked it myself :) anyways im currently working on the alc262 driver which needs to be manually kext edited so far the sound on the tz works fine via laptop but no headphone jack :( but igot the dump code and when i have time will have it available..

Keynote is really that much better than PowerPoint, even for the professional?

Keynote is mindblowing. It's why I ran out and bought an iMac. I wanted to wait for the much-rumored much-smaller MacBook, but I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy one soon. It's worth switching for.

The special effects are unbelievable. Check the videos out for yourself:

I can't wait to begin using it.

Keep me updated on how your setup is progressing.

Audio, wireless and brightness controls are must-haves for me. Sleep I can deal with not having but it still important. BC is necessary because the screen is insanely bright and I travel so on a plane at night it's no go also improved battlife would be nice. I found a linux app that will do the BC, but it relies on some calls from the linux kernel, so I don't know if it would be possible to port. I can do the azalia speaker only output, but again i need headphone jack.

The thing I can't believe is how fast OSX runs on this little beast. It's faster XP and Linux, and runs circles around Vista. Apps and windows open instantly.

You're temping me to try out OSX.

You two should make another thread and let us know the process you've used and what you do and do not have working.

Hey why not, make a thread on OSX for the TZ as done with XP. Other OSs too in the future? Linux?

not to drag this thread back to TZ/vista stuffs, but i've been thinking about trying this myself. A couple questions:
    1) if I understand correctly, you swapped out your second HDD, which means you had the TZ model w/o the DVD drive?
    2) I know NO ONE on here would recommend me doing this, but would it be possible (after making the switch and popping in the SSD) to install vista using the vista DVD that comes with the TZ? i realize the bloatware is annoying to yank out after the fact, but I kind of like some of the stuff that comes bundled... just wondering if it's that easy, or if I would need like an OEM version of vista, bc my TZ included DVD would be looking for my factory hardware...

I've read the thread and the instructions and can't seem to remove the left hinge cap (which is the first step) to take the case apart. I'm having trouble visualizing the photo - exactly WHERE do you try to "force" the hinge apart? Any help would be appreciated - as the remianing steps appear pretty clear.

    thank you

Thanks so much to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I'm definitely going to give this a try.

Follow up question: if I have a Vaio TZ with the 32GB SSD already installed, and I want to upgrade it to a larger capacity SSD (say 128GB), is there a special procedure or special kind of SSD/adapter that I need to get?

    Thanks!

I'm upgrading my TZ 190. So I'm swapping a 32gb SSD with a new 64gb SSD. The installation went fine but I can't get any software installed. When try to install from the Sony Recovery disc it asks for drivers???? When I try to install from a stock WXP disc I get errors.

Does the SSD have to prepped in some way to install an OS on it? It shows up in the BIOS but I can't seem to format it or anything.

Is there a disk utility for SSD's that I could run off of a CD?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just purchased the TZ190N/BC and have also purchased a 128 GB Zif SSD to upgrade the 32 GB SSD. Does anyone have the pictures associated with the thread that includes the instructions?

It is time to close this thread now and use it as a reference. The pictures that were posted several years ago have been removed. It is best to use the guide that mobytoy linked to and translate it through google and may be this thread below will help as well. You can also also open another post about this of course.
