In order to get back to the original Vaio BIOS is it safe to just run the Vaio Update? ...or do I have to use the flash utility to flash my backup?

    Hi guys,
First of all thanks for this amazing work, I have a Vaio Z (VGN-Z41MD) with last available BIOS, which is R4044M3 and I would like to enable the advanced features.

I followed the windows version tutorial in 1st post but I get the error message "Invalid VSS signature"
    So I searched for 24 56 53 53 sequence with an Hex editor, I get a result :
    05f3e6b3581fb42f7782c284d9945f6d7f304da8.jpg

But now I'm lost as I'm not really familiar with this.
What am I suppose to do with it now?
Thanks in advance for your help!

pyr0, any updates on that hack? Would be totally awesome to get TRIM on my 2010 Vaio Z1.

Tried to figure it out on my own, google suggested there are three steps:
    1. Flash a newer-version RAID firmware ('option ROM')
    2. Patch BIOS, hacking in the controller's Alternate ID
    3. Install latest IRST drivers

So i can picture how to do 2 and 3, but have no idea at all where to get the RAID ROM and how to flash it.

Can you explain the whole thing in detail?

    --
P.S. Thx psyq321 and pyr0 for messing with Vaio bioses :) Your patches helped me out a LOT. Nice reversing skills.

v0s, I have the hack running on my Z1 and TRIM works flawlessly for a long time already. I could do the same for Z2, Z3 and SA models.

The problem is that there seems to be not enough demand to justify the 10+ hours it needs to bring my "dirty" ROM patch into a community flashable hack that does not brick others' devices. And I have too many other projects and RL work to do to just shoot the hack to the community currently...

pyr0, any bits of information will still help greatly! If you don't want to publish it, can you just shoot me a quick dirty pile of files (relevant tools/dumps/roms/whatever comes handy) at [email protected] ? Will try to figure it out on my own, without stealing your time.

There is no advanced menu hack for the Z3 yet. Don't try to flash anything, it will brick your Laptop. What I meant is that I can enable TRIM on all Z models (2010 and later). I don't know which Intel Raid Rom version is in the Z3's Bios. This is OT anyways so we should discuss that in another thread.

you already have a patch to let trim work on a VPCZ13C5E?

I really cant figure out how to:

Intel RST Option ROM: 9.5.0.1037 (Stock) -> 11.6.0.1702 (put "2c3b000007" at Offset 1bb22)

you said you'll share the modded bios on this forum but I cant find it

I did not read all the thread through, but is there an opion in the advanced menu that enables undervolting or certain power management method to apply on the GPU?
My vpcz 1290X have been going through a lot of unsuccessful driver installation, black screens frozen screens and flickering screens. And the system goes blue screen that says nvlddmkm.sys crashes. My guess is that the power supply is not stable when the GPU encountered heavy computing.

Hi everyone! O know I might be OT but... I've flashed the bios and all went well (thanks a lot to the developer).
My hope was to get Wake On Lan working but stil... no way to wake it up by magic packet. I've tried on windows, changing drivers with more advanced too but nothing. I've tried under linux Mint 15 following a precedure but again, nothing.
Someone here was able to get it working maybe and could give me hand!
    Thanks!!!

Missing TRIM is the main disadvantage for VPCZ (at least for VPCZ1) at my point of view so I believe your fix will be interesting to many people who do not plan to change their Z to any "modern" VAIO. So I do not agree with "not enough demand"...

I upgraded in my country germany. Pay 60 Euro for BGA rework. But must prepare anything by my self ( i7 640M cpu ).

The real problem was there is no OEM i7 640M here in germany, so I must bought from somewhere else

Hi guys, sorry if I missed this a while back but I keep trying to flash my bios and get to the screen about a missing OS and press ctl-alt-del to reboot. I followed the guide to create a bootable USB and that is what I run into every time. I have done the usb installation a few times and same result. I have win 8.1 running and am wondering if that has anything to do with it? any help would be appreciated. Cheers

EDIT: tried another USB and did the trick. :) Thanks for this great little hack pyr0

    trim for vpcz1...
    that is very good

i have no idea how to mod bios yet

    theory:
open the intel rom 9.x with hex editor.
open our bios with hex editor
find the hex from intel rom 9.x inside our bios
open the intel rom 11.x with hex editor
replace the hex of our bios with 11.x
    save
    flash bios...

i have no idea how to verify bios yet.

The easiest way is let the ssd not in raid 0 mode

A single drive with intel RST driver would be perfect for trim

    What chipset and what configuration?

If RAID0 pre 7 series then just adding a modified RAID Option ROM is sufficient.

You can find already modified OROMs for trim on Fernando's Win-RAID forum.

Just replace the RAID OROM in your BIOS with the correct modified OROM.

RAID OROM sets up features and access to RAID array before the OS is loaded. Without it your BIOS would not be able to boot the array.

Dufus you seem to know exactly how to do this could you please post an idiots full guide with links if possible. I find so much info out there I cannot put it all together. So many possible downloads, I do not know which ones are right for my Z13 or how to do it. I am sure many of us would be very pleased.

I have the European vaio VPCZ13C5E with the unlocked/modded (I used this method I helped to write. http://forum.notebookreview.com/son...vaio-z-advanced-menu-bios-44.html#post7932873 ) bios version R3030C3.

How can I find the name of my mainboard BIOS file?

I am trying to run the following CBROM.EXE 'name of the mainboard BIOS file' /D

( for my enabling trim research. )

The OROM in that BIOS is quite old, 9.5.

What do you mean by that?

You already know you have an Insyde BIOS, CBROM is unsuitable. I don't know if the guys still use EzH2o for Insyde or something newer.

The RST(e) is to show that it behaves similar to enterprise (from 11.5) but is still RST. The real enterprise are RSTe without the brackets and version usually starts with 3.x.x.x

Here's your backup with OROM. It's untested and can brick your laptop. If you decide to use it you do so at your own risk and take full responsibility for the consequences.

If I were you I'd would ask some of the Sony modder's to check it for you as I have no experience with this BIOS and that it is already modified doesn't help.

Well I deceided to give it a go and flashed with your modded bios and bricked my laptop. No recriminations I knew what might happen but I thought the only way to know would be to try it.

Any ideas/help to fix would be gratefully received. When I turn on nothing happens except the green light in the switch comes on and the CD clicks. Put in a W7 install cd but it just tries to read and spins. Screen black. Tried pressing F2, same thing. Won't boot from the usb stick either. I seen something re Rasberry Pi but it looks too complicated.
