Hi, I wonder if the integrated Wireless Wide Area Network in sz6/7 series support GSM network as well (or just Sprint's). And is it kind of unlocked network, i.e. whether I can use it with other GSM/EDGE network in other countries?
    Thanks!

Still interested in this too. In Europe the Vaio's can be bought with built-in 3G HSDPA (UMTS) and in the States they use EVDO. I'm interested in knowing whether a US Sony Laptop would be able to get on the 3G networks in Europe though (NOT via an extra PCMCIA card).

As far as I can find, no, they are two different kinds of networks, and therefore you would need an extra card or osmething to allow you to connect.
    Sorry :p
(why hasn't this been standardized yet?????, just like metric, ITS BETTER STUPID PPLZ/ why did farenheit think that freezing should be at 32 degrees? HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE???!?!?! everyone hsould use metric, oh well, rant off)
    good luck

No it is locked to Sprint in the US. There are conflicting accounts of whether or not it can be unlocked, Some posts say that if you call Sony with your IMEI number and claim that your running XP they will give you the code. If you search some of the threads in the Sony section of this forum you should find out a little more.

My question is can the Europe/UK HSDPA card be unlocked?

I would be very interested to hear from some of our friends in the UK regarding this.
