What the hell is the 4700mhd? I know that notebookcheck has a a listing for it as being a more powerful x4500 chip, but there is no other mention of it anywhere.

Even the intel link that notebookcheck references doesnt have any mention of the 4700mhd.

Basically, what im asking is, does anyone with an SR have this chip? does it exist?

How capable is it? Does it run hot....etc.?

Does this chip even exist?! (or is it a typo and really a x4500).

It exists as far as I know, I've seen it in a BZ too. I don't know if there is any difference with X4500.

In a review by PC Pro (in the review thread) it got 6 hours on standard battery. That would have to mean it stays cool.

I believe the 3d mark 06 score is somewhere around 1000 (not sure) but definitely not very suitable for gamers. It will be powerful enough to play 1080p files.

Edit: actually the review by PC Pro talks about X4500MHD:

This is the only source i found with information regarding the gpu:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-4700MHD-GMA-X4700MHD.10122.0.html

but the problem is, notebookchecks source(the intel link) has no mention of the chip.

It says its a 107mhz faster version of the x4500. but, this does not prove that the chip exists or is even in the new SR's.

can anyone with a SR with integrated prove it's existance and possible
    3dmark score?

yeh, looks like all the CTOs on SonyStyle are offering the X4700 rather than the X4500 now...

But all the PortableOne SRs still list X4500s

Some of the FW review units on various sites seem to have had X4700s as well.

Thats odd, the SonyStyle site lists the FW has having the 4500MHD. The two options are:
    # Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with Intel® Clear Video Technology
    # ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3470 with 256MB vRAM [add $50.00]

Maybe the X4700 is the performance version of the X45?

Compared to the GMA 4500MHD, the 4700MHD features a higher core clock (plus 107 MHz) and is therefore a bit faster. Compared to the predecessor GMA X3100, the GMA 4500MHD has two more shaders and a 33 MHz higher core clock speed. Therefore, the chip is noticable faster than the older one (especially in 3DMark06). Still, the performance is just on par with the entry level dedicated graphics cards and therefore not suited for demanding games.

Yeah but....as I mentioned in my previous post...notebookcheck is the ONLY source of information for the x4700, and the source that they used...the intel link on that page does not have any mention of the 4700mhd.

To add insult to injury, Sonystyle.com's own specification page for the SR says its a 4500mhd, but the configuration page says 4700mhd.

Isn't it a bit odd, that sony is the only manufacturer using this possibly mythical or just not common gpu. Granted, i've NEVER seen a GMA x3500, but those exist as welll(but intel does mention them on their webpage).

Also, an unrelated complaint, I called sony's order hotline to ask a sales rep about it, and they said they "were experiencing higher than usual volume and to provide my name, phone number, and model that i'm innterested in and they would call me back as soon as possible". I called them at 11am on Saturday, it is now Sunday at almost 1pm and they did not call me back, I can even imagine the horror of calling with a technical support problem if that is how they treat potential customers.

The performance difference will be small so I do not really understand what the point is.

Neither will perform well for games. Both will be good for battery life.

Mild/obsessive curiousity with one of my top choices for my new notebook.
