Interesting pricing strategy from Sony... and a small dilemma for me

I've been hemming and hawing about the SA Signature Edition (running $2499 in the US) and the new Z series coming out soon where my configuration would be $2999...
On paper, it's easy to see a $500 difference between the two, but once I had the docking station for the SA ($200), some more memory and shipping (I'd pick up the Z when it gets in store - SA signature is currently not in stock) the difference begins to shrink given that the Z ships with the dock in the US in all configurations.

While few have actually seen the Z, the parts that I liked from the reviews were the thin design, long battery life and (hopefully) good workmanship (ie quality of design and implementation of it).
On the negative side, some reviewers mentioned that the key-travel is pretty small, making typing not as comfortable as it is on the SA series.
I have the Vaio X as my companion device, and while I love it's thinness... the keyboard could provide a touch more travel for my taste (I know, I know... it's the thin design) - so I'm a bit worried that the guys at Sony took the keyboard from the X-Series, made it a tad wider and shoved it into the Z Series...

So the question is: did anyone in this forum already got their hands on one and can tell me if one can write comfortably on the Z or if the keyboard is really just meant for on-the-go input and otherwise one should use a USB (or wireless) add-on keyboard?
I'm coming from Thinkpads and HP Elitebook machines, so a good keyboard can make or break it for me on the Z (and the reason I'm looking at Sony's is the 1600 x 900 screen... 1280 or 1376 is just not doing it anymore)

For comparisons sake, I tried the keys on the SA in the store and thought they are pretty good...

    Thanks!

there is supposed to be even less key travel on the Z2 than the X

Wow... That is indeed VERY little travel than. not that I plan to write a novel on it, but...

Bummer as I almost convinced myself of the new Z... Might end up with the SA now

Too many models and sizes and configuration types now.

Get the tool you need for your needs. As simple as that.

If you want a decent workhorse machine that ticks most of the boxes then get the SA. If you want the absolute best screen available and an ultra light machine, then get the Z.

If you intend to type a lot, then the SA would be the best option. I'm not saying the SA is the better machine because it isn't, but it's more suited as a all purpose work tool than the Z (unless you travel a lot).

    Flip a coin :)

Wow really? and to say the Z1 had a fairly long travel when compared to other laptops (in my opinion and in other reviews i read)

Why don't you wait for a display Z2 to pop up near you, then you can try the keyboard out yourself to see if you can type well on it or not? That seems to be the only thing holding you back from the ultimate ultraportable.
