When I plug the headset in, the sound is routed to the headphones, but the internal speakers continue to sound also.
Is there a way to turn off the internal speakers off while listening through the headphones?

Please make sure the correct drivers are installed.

Have you reinstalled Windows lately? or done anything of the sort with your laptop?

No, nothing unusual. I am running dual boot with Windows XP Pro and Ubuntu 8.10. I did forget to mention that the speakers do cut off when using the headset in Windows. So I imagine you are correct about the drivers. Now, can you help me with the driver business? Where do I look, and for what?
