    Hi,

Being an idiot, I uninstalled WinDVD when I did a complete restore of my vaio. Now I realise that BD for Vaio is my only free option for blu ray discs. I can't seem to find the download anywhere from the sony website. I've tried in my recovery dvd's and its not even listed there.

    Anybody help? :) .

    Jam.

That means investing £55 which I'd rather not do.

The main application doesn't seem to be there :/ . I've emailed esupport to see what they can do and hopefully they will reply by tommorrow. So frustrating since I really wanted to watch some blu ray movies over the chrismas period.

The trial version of PowerDVD last time I used it supports blu-ray. if there is a trial version of TotalMedia Theater you might want to try that as well although it may not work on 64-bit systems.

Yeh I've my hands on PowerDVD which supports Blu Ray however it doesn't play my Blu Ray disc since it says that my graphics driver is not compatible. . I have the latest "official" driver for my FZ which is 167.43 and most definetly the 8600GS is HDCP capable. Hmm.

If you made recovery DVDs before re-installing your OS, it should not be difficult to get the main WinDVD application from the discs. If you do not have access to recovery discs, perhaps you could order them from Sony.

I've tried using the "reinstall programs or drivers" option in vaio recovery centre but WinDVD isn't listed there - there is only click to dvd which is something completly different. Obviously the program has to be somewhere on the recovery discs since it installed from them when I used them to get my vaio back to factory settings.

Understandable, but keep in mind that the Sony-bundled version is a crippled version with many of the features disabled, so you're just not getting what you had -- you''re getting far more.

(Similar for the Roxio Media Creator bundled with Sony Vaios -- it's severely crippled to near unusability, and unfortunately doesn't uninstall cleanly either.)

You could also try the trial version of Slysoft's AnyDVD (not a player software), this can remove HDCP requirements.

WinDVD BD only come with Bluray version. I think your recovery disc is for general PC, so you cannot find it.

If you haven't already, remove existing WinDVD.
Download and install Universal Extractor http://legroom.net/software/uniextract
Download and install WinDVD BD for VAIO in the following order:
    1. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNAR290G&upd_id=2762&os_id=28
    2. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNAR290G&upd_id=3216&os_id=28
    3. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNFW190&upd_id=4175&os_id=29

Using Universal Extractor, you have to manually extract the files to bypass model checker. Once the files is extracted, go to TEMPEXEFOLDER folder and double click the executable file in the folder.

Run WinDVD BD, right click, click Setup, click Information Tab, it should say Version: 8.0 DXVA B09.670

Did you also replace the VAIO graphics driver with something else? If so that is probably why you cannot play blu-rays, others have reported blu-rays will not play when using different graphic drivers on Sony notebooks.

The method in the post above works great-only thing I had to do was update the AACS key before I was able to play back a disc, which took 2 minutes. If all of the other software works like that, it'll be great!
Also I'm using win7 with the latest Catalyst drivers + Mobility Modder and the demo disc from the PS3 plays fine, hopefully all other discs will do the same.
