I've been looking at the VGN-FW460J/T at Fry's Electronics and I would to know if this is a good notebook? I really don't care about the new i7's that are coming out, because I planning to get one sometime next year when they reach at a least 2.0GHz and at an affordable cost.

I am a massive fan of the Sony FW series notebook, but I would still wait another month if I could. Windows 7 release may bring a slight bump in spec or maybe a slight price drop (do I dare wish for both?).

On top of that, I think the HP Envy 15 is an incredible looking machine, and if Sony do their usual magic, they will release a truly awesome FW replacement soon.

I ended up buying the Sony FW460J/T with my wife's approval (within budget). We both really like the Chocolate Brown color on the top lid with the black color from the trim of the lcd screen all the way to the palm rests. It looks very classy, rich, and professional when we compared to the other FW series (Silver color) and the glossy looking laptops. We also like the keyboard on it, and like the LCD screen on it. With the purchase of the FW460J/T, we have a $50 mail in rebate and a free upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium (but I will buy the full version of Windows 7 for a clean install and when I sell the FW460 next year, the free upgrade of Windows 7 will be included.

The FW490J is my first Sony and I love it. It's pretty slim and it performs pretty well. I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed and it is very snappy. As for the Envy, I'm digging that computer as well. It's very nice looking and has the latest technologies. Since you are still up in the air about the HP/Sony, mine as well read this review on the Envy, it's not a comprehensive review but it's better than nothing:
