For all the available laptops/netbooks we can find in the market today, with screen size at least 10", which is the lightest one?

So far I have found the following data:

    Apple iPad 680-730 grams
    VAIO X Series 655-780 grams
NEC Versa Pro J UltraLite Type VS 725 grams

I think VAIO X is so hard to beat.

I would never ever choose something like iPad :D I have a feeling that given enough time Apple will be destroyed by Android.

The Toshiba R600 is pretty light, too.

The X is a great machine for occasional use when travelling. I couldn't live with it as my prime notebook (mine is for sale...).

Heard about this and confirmed many times - it's heavier than X :)

Yeah it's purely for travelling purposes. My desktop is for daily working.

Yes that's true but it also has a built-in DVD burner and a ULV Core 2 Duo CPU.
So you might say it is the lightest full featured notebook.

ULV C2D CPU is nice but not vital. However optical drive is the most useless component in laptop to me.

I agree, I could also live without an optical drive.
Once everything is installed I don't need it anymore and the industry is phasing out physical media anyways except for movies on blu-ray discs.
They should rather use the additional space for a larger battery.

The NEC reminds me of the Vaio 505.

Im a frequent traveller, I only need office work and powerpoint presentations, as you can see in my signature...I have most of the light notebooks since the toshiba R100.

The X is by far the best weight/size. My R500 is actually pretty much the same weight (its without optical drive) but the build quality is really bad. The X on the other hand has a very solid feel.

I can recommend it for all kind of office/presentation work. The integrated 3G and GPS helps a lot aswell. Garmin mobile PC works fast, maps available for almost the whole world.

While at home, I still use my old Fujitsu Q2010 from the year 2006, because its keyboard is excellent for writing. Also a 12,1 screen is somewhat nicer to work with then 11,1.

    just my 2 cents :)

^I still have an R100 sitting behind me on a bookshelf in my office. The design of that machine still amazes me today.
