As well as other Sony software? I have a clean Win8 install but I'm hesitant to add junk software. Thanks

Unfortunately yes, it's worth it. You'd want to be able to control monitor/keyboard backlight, usb ports and fan control.
-
Also for advanced battery care - where you can set it to charge the battery to 80% or 50%.

Thanks, I'll give it a try then.

All the Sony specific drivers are needed. You can skip the media browser stuff - that is the real crapware.
You can skip the VAIO smart network if you don't want to change the wireless settings (enable/disable bluetooth etc.). The hardware remembers the last used settings, so if you just want to leave them like that, you don't need this. -
I installed the drivers directly from the device manufacturers and they not only work fine but also are more current than the Sony ones.

I said Sony specific. That meant stuff that is ONLY made by Sony for their products. Things like Sony Firmware Extension and Sony Shared Library, Setting Utility series, VAIO Event services, etc.
Is Vaio Control Center worth installing?
