    Hi guys,
I have a Vaio-Z750D, of course it's amazing in power and feature but I want to know how much it's robust in hitting and bumping, because I want to use it on my robot in experimental condition. Does anybody have a piece of information?

It has a mechanical hard drive, so you ought to be careful of that.

I agree, but SSDs are expensive yet and anti shock sensor works perfect on Z series, the body and structure are more important for me....

It seems a little odd to me that you would want to do something like that on purpose to your laptop. If you are a professional tester then i might understand. If you you really want to conduct your tests then go right ahead, no one can predict how your laptop will end up. It is your risk to take.

There have been some owners laptop that have survived drops and some that haven't. The Z is not built like a tank. The area around the power cord is a soft spot.

Of course if you do your testing then do update with your findings.

I will thank you if you say more about the "weak points" of vaio-z, I have chosen vaio-z because of it's great battery life and low weight design, I don't know if it's structure also is strong or not. I watched several official testing videos in vaio web site that regards them vaio z is very durable and strong if the videos not to be exaggerated!

IMHO, if you want a "hardcore throw around" notebook, maybe you should consider the Panasonic Toughbook notebooks. Those should be able to withstand quite a bit of abuse. Good luck. :)

surely it's not as hitting-proof as a ThinkPad :) try to use T400s instead ^^

IMO, the Z is very delicate and easy to break. I used to own a Z.

Shows that area can be vulnerable or a "weak" spot.

About Sony videos. I've just looked at them again and the drop test is not that intense.
For one they never actually let go of the Z until it is nearly near the ground.
It is not like they just let it go free falling.

Well, the whole thing is built to ensure an controlled environment. There is not other way to actually test something if you cannot repeat it. Certainly it is not the same as if you drop your Z and it hits on an edge or so...

To be honest, I doubt that there is any office notebook that will not be damaged if it hits hard floor on one edge from more than a meter hight. Due to its weight, the Z probably has a better chance to withstand the force on an impact than notebooks with a higher weight...

This is all great but mine seems to be made of thick cardboard, wobble sand torses everewhere and 1/2 the stuff is cracked and has stopped working inside... I guess I just got a lemon but Im not impressed with the build quality, assembly and plastics used on the Z... So, hitting proof? I treat mine with gloves and ultra care and is falling appart... if I hit it it would vaporize... The quality of all SOny products in general is a let down and the laptops (all of them) suck as far manufacturing quality goes... what saves them is their looks because when it comes to design, they do hit all the right notes... and that's about it...

thank you, I got videos finally! but is it reliable? I mean rumors about hinge problem and bottom base frangibility? so they are designing fault or not?

I dropped mine last week from my truck, it was in my messenger bag and it was open, i grabbed the bag from the bottom assuming it was closed and it kinda or rolled out on end, hit the ashphalt on its corner without anything breaking the fall and clattered down, probably a 2-3 foot fall, landed on the left wrist corner (when typing),
Not a problem, a minor scrape on the corner... It was a sickening moment though...

The drop tests well like i wrote before they are not that intense.

Some of the other tests though with the display, the flexibilty of the display does give probably some resistance. You can't just rely on the videos because they need validation.

A forum member posted this some time ago. It shows that the display is flexible and possibly less likely to shatter in some circumstances.

um my sony z broke after a few months after use. It fell on the power button and the power button got jammed inside the shiny circular surface. I pulled it out and it damaged a button below.. ;-(
