Hi guys I just stumbled accross the thread about modding some dell with an 8400M GS vidcard, I was wondering if this also applied to sony as well.. or they did a good job adding thermal compoung to the heatsink.
I just wanted to know if any of you did some mod, if it's really necessary or my GPU will melt slowly while I game.
Some guy said about placing a copper sheet in between the heatsink and the gpu.. but I still don't get how much pressure should be applied when bolting the screws.
On the other hand has anyone mod their 8400 M GT to say a 8600 using rivatuner.. I'm all ears![]()

Copper mod is only for GPU's that use thermal pads (which are terrible at conducting heat)
Does your 8400m GT use a thermal pad? What kind of temperatures are you getting now anyway? -
Sup flip well honestly I got the faintest idea if it's using a thermal pad at all.. I would have to dismantle it as see if there's a thermal pad conducting heat no clue at all.
What's worst I haven't found any reviews or posts about FZ 190 dismantled. But by the way which temps should I be getting idle and while gaming. ?
Do you think I can softmod this 8400GT to 8600 GT with riva?
Tnx -
Have you tried looking at your service manual?
Your temps should be 50c idle to 85c max . The cooler the better.
Why do you wanna softmod? -
Flip I just ran everest and I'm getting 63C idle on my gpu .. , could this be caused cause I installed the latest nvidia mobility driver but as it didn't detect my gpu I just chose 8600M GT instead?
-
Whats your maximum temps when gaming?
I suggest using HWMonitor or GPU-z to read temps. -
I got around 85C playing crysis warhead on 1024x768

Its a little hot but its still in range, would be better if it ran below 80c though.
Is copper mod necessary on Vaio FZ190 with 8400M GT ?
