Hey guys Im thinking about buying a sony laptop but Im not sure if I should spend more money getting a full HD laptop. Im going to be using it for a while (i hope 4 years minimum) but people have told me full HD is not noticeable/worth it. Im going to be using this laptop mainly for college and watching movies.
Also, I wanted to know for example if I buy a non full HD laptop (HD only), will I be able to view full HD movies if I download movies and watch them on a full HD TV? Can I view full HD stuff on my TV through my laptop with the HDMI thingy IF my laptop is only HD and not full HD?
Thanks!

Yes, Yes, and Yes. 1080p on a notebook screen is a really noticeable upgrade. I'd go for it, and if the text is too small, just turn up the DPi settings. And yes, you can hook a non-FHD notebook to a 1080p TV and it will work all the same.

Thanks for replying.
1 more thing, if I get the full HD resolution can I watch everything on full HD? I dont know much about resolutions but can I watch any movie on full HD? and when Im browsing or looking at internet will that be on full HD? Dunno if this sounds dumb but I had to ask lol. -

LOL... One should never feel dumb for asking questions. So, say you pop a regular old DVD in... whatever player you select to play the movie will upscale the video, and probably scale it further to fit 1920x1080 which is FHD. Upscaling is different with different players and different codecs, but they all do a pretty good job. Blu-Ray is still in a class of it's own, and FHD Blu-Ray's on a 1080p 16" notebook screen will blow your mind. Promise. But about the internet... You can place 2-3 web pages side-by-side and browse all three at the same time with 1080p resolution, or you could just maximize your screen real-estate and just multitask without having to hide windows and drag stuff out of the way... it really just gives you more room to work IMO. Check the example.... Here

Depends on what you are doing and how good your eyesight is (maybe?).
If you're just writing papers and watching movies/shows online or downloaded, something like 1600x900 would be good. If you need to fiddle with data a lot (hello stats!) or design at all, 1920x1080 is a really good idea. Even 1920x1200 if you can.
I tried having a 17" laptop with 1920x1200, I found it painful. Firefox was always zoomed in, DPI set high as well... just so I could see. I now have smaller res and use an external LCD monitor for when I need the real-estate for design and stats.
Back to my original point: it all depends on what you're planning to do with that computer, if you have (or don't) an external LCD and how comfortable you are with things that small. -
I agree with XGX2007 100%. I think the FHD screen would definitely be worth it on a screen that size.

Have 1920x1080 on my Sony FW285 - had for almost two years now - fantastic screen with lots of real estate. images are sharp, clear and the "extra terrain" if great for working on Excel spreadsheets. Would never go back to a normal screen.
Go see one in a store and compare side by side. Think you'll answer your own questions on if you like it when you can compare it. -
Yes Yes Yes too
Defiantly worth it.
Is full HD worth it on a 16¨4 inch screen?
