I'm planning to get a Sony Z series Vaio with cuztomize spec. I need some suggestion is it worth it. If you guys think which spec is not currently need and waste of money please inform me :)

    Sony Vaio Z

    Processor: Intel® Core(TM) i7 620 Processor
Operating system: Genuine Windows® 7 Professional
    Finishes: Silver (metal shield)
Hard drive: 256 GB Ultra SATA Flash SSD
    Memory: 4 GB 1066MHz DDR3-SDRAM
    Optical Drive: DVD disc drive
Display: 33.3 cm LCD, 1920x1080, webcam
    Connectivity: Wireless WAN
    Security features: Fingerprint and TPM
Battery: Battery life up to 6.5 hours
    Headphones: No headphones
    Ports: 3 USB Ports
    Internet security: McAfee® - 60 days protection

    It cost around £ 2569 and US $ 3860

Is the price worth the spec or anything that i trade off for better spec?

My previous Vaio has lasted about 6 years with very few problems; this lifespan is primarily how I justify the outrageous expense of the Z, in addition to it just being so deliciously buttery.

Treat it right and you'll have quite a nice laptop for many years to come.

I need a portable laptop because I need to bring to Uni almost everyday and a bit of photoshop and little gaming for older games like Warcraft 3.

Photoshop need more CPU or GPU?

is the 4gb ram enough for normal usage?

The Z is extremely light and portable, plus the battery life is (supposedly) amazing.

Current versions of photoshop will use the GPU if available.

4gb should be more than enough unless you are a hardcore gamer who runs 3 copies of WoW simultaneously :]

4gb RAM is more than enough. The configured machine is overkill for photoshop IMO. Maybe considered the 1080p screen instead for photoshop?

I got the exact same model (pictures in the owners' thread a few pages back), except 8GB RAM, in the UK, and it was cheaper. Call the SonyStyle telephone number and ask for a discount...

I think it's worth it, but I'm a power-user/developer on the move. If you're only doing a bit of photoshop then it may be overkill for you, especially if you can plug in your laptop while at Uni.

thank for all of your answer.

Yea I plan to call sonystyle to order it an ask for discount. (lpx) how much discount did they give you? and how long does it take to customize order to arrive. In the web it says 4-5 weeks *That is freaking Long*

I'm planning to actually swap the metal design for 8 gb ram. but is it wise to do soo?

5% discount. You may get other stuff depending on what offers are active. Mine was ordered Feb 26th and arrived March 19th. If you're on that tight a budget, take the RAM/functionality not the paintwork.

It's just a paint-job. Black is black, silver is silver, metal shield is just hexagonal patterns. There's no other/structural difference (other than the way that the gloss finishes will show fingerprints like there's no tomorrow and the others not so much).

For me, DirectX11 mostly adds tesselation capabilities with geometry shaders. I don't really think that games will get more FPS with it, just more detail for the same horsepower. If you keep waiting for the next big thing then you'll never buy anything computer-related; if it can improve your productivity in a meaningful way right now then get it, if you can wait, wait. :)
