I have another problem after installing vista on my sz. My wireless just stops working! The only way to get it up and running again is to re boot. I have the latest wireless drivers from the intel site and I have also tried an older driver.

Is it just me??? Any ideas as to why this might be happening? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

I have actually done a re format and reinstall 3 times now. This time though I installed the wireless switch utility (never used this on xp) and so far the wireless hasn't stopped working. Not going to speak too soon though.

i meant "repair" as in right clicking the wlan icon in the tray and choose "repair" when you lose your signal.

    at least it works now.

I had this issue after I installed the newest Intel Vista drivers. Ended up formatting and reloading as I couldn't roll it back for some reason and I had other issues. I won't be re-installing that driver even though I don't know for sure that was the problem.

This weekend I booted up my SZ and didn't see any wireless networks available to connect to.. which was strange, given that there are a good half dozen or so running around my apartment. Upon restart, they all appeared again.

I've had occasional problems under Vista with the DVD not showing up on a particular boot-up, and then appeared after a restart. Nothing that's really driven me crazy yet, though.

Every week or so I have an issue where the wlan will disappear; the green hardware led goes off, and it disappears under device manager. Very odd. Can only be fixed with a reboot. In fairness, it only appears to happen when the SZ has not been rebooted for about 7 to 10 days, with only standby in between.

Having said that, I'm also using up to date, non-Vaio approved graphics and WLAN drivers. That could be it.

At least I am not the only one. I also tried the Vaio wlan drivers and it dropped out within a couple of hours! So I went back to the latest wlan driver and installed the wireless switch utility and all has been ok for a few days now. Crossing fingers

I am actually having the exact same problems. I have the TXN15p, and this past weekend, the wireless connection would cut out and the Intel Proset program would indicate that my wireless was turned off even though the switch was set to the "on" position. I have not installed any new hardware or software, but this just started happening a few days ago. Does anyone know why this happens?

I had the same problem. here is how you fix it. Go into the device manager and click on the intel wireless adapter icon. Then go to advanced. Then in the box scroll down to power management. Then unclick default value and set it to highest. This is really stupid but it has its own power management settings separate from everything else.

I had my VAIO with factory loaded VISTA for about 2 months now, my wireless works flawlessly. I updated my wireless driver whenever SONY had one (they have one pretty recent, like 3-4 weeks ago) which will fix the sudden signal drop issues.

Did you try to update the drivers and try again? I hope it is just a driver issue.

I also have that problem recently after updating to the newest Intel WiFi driver.

I can't find the power saving thingie you're suggesting in the driver properties though.

Neither can I find the newer Sony driver.

    Some help would be great.

For those having problems, can you check your Event Log (in Vista, Start -> Search for "Event Viewer"). Look in the System Log and see if you see any "NETV4W32" errors. That's the newest Intel driver.

I was having the same problems.

Also another thing to check is do any of you have a Sidebar gadget that shows your wireless signal and other info???

I had one that was called "Wireless 2.0" or something that showed signal strength and the access point name. Anyway, Ive been using it forever so I never thought to try removing it. I removed it and for 3 days straight my wireless connection in Vista with the latest Intel wireless drivers worked FLAWLESSLY! This morning I put it back in my Sidebar and a couple of hours later, my WLAN LED went off and had the problem people are describing. That was the ONLY change I made so it's suspicious.

I've now removed that Sidebar gadget and am going to see how long it lasts. Hopefully that is the culprit since it's such an easy fix.

    Will report back.

After my Clean Install with the Vista Business I was provided by Sony, my wireless was already running without needing any drivers to be installed. I left it at that, as I didn't feel the need to install Intels Proset or any bloatware. Keeping it very minimal.

A perfect example for the usual lack of interest in the system. Intel provides the ProSet, which is bloated. But they also provide a drive only solution without ProSet. And that updated driver performs faster and provides a better signal than the one from Sony.

I've had this issue too when I did a fresh install of vista - I went crazy installing and uninstalling many things, so I cant tell you exactly how I fixed it, but it works now.

If you are still having the problem you can fix it w/o a reboot though-
    Goto Control Panel
    Click Classic View
    Goto Network Sharing Center
On the Side goto Manage Network Connections
In there you will see your Intel PRO/Wireless device, right click it, disable it, then right click and enable it again, tat should turn it on and have things working

In XP there was a Sony util that allowe me to turn off BT/Wifi and Choose between 2.4 ghz and 5ghz... has anyone got this to work in vista? I cant find the util

Yes, I can happily confirm the same thing. Been running my SZ for over a week using only standby/hibernate with no issues with wireless. Happy as a pig in slop :)

    Here are you answers guys!

I've had the same problem after installing windows vista. The WLAN device suddenly disappeared  and sometimes just show up and goes off again. After reading some forum and my own 13 years of experience. I went to event viewer to see what's going on and I found out that broadcon drivers were actually blocked or stopped from loading and hence the device was disappearing. So I started the rage :D
I found out that the windows defender was actually blocking the drivers to load because it was finding it vulnerable or spyware something. So I disabled the windows defender by going to security centre > choosing windows defender > tools > options > then scrolling down and unchecking the real-time protection. After I started re-installing the drivers and restarted my hp laptop. So the WLAN device recovered.
I just want to laugh at Hp support team who were suggesting their customer to buy new wireless lan cards. That's actually funny!!! :D

    Enjoy brother and sisters!!!

I was also facing a similar problem which drove me nuts: sometimes after bootup, no wireless networks can be seen by Windows. This also happens sometimes after hibernate/sleep. I have an SZ31SP, running Vista SP1, using an Intel 3945BG (also tried a 3945ABG, same problem) wireless LAN card. It appears to be a combination of flaky drivers from Intel and Vista.

Here is what I did to solve the problem.

    1. Download and install the latest Intel drivers for Vista, currently 11.5.0.36 from Lenovo at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...o&lndocid=MIGR-67256&velxr-layout=printLenovo

    2. After installing the new driver, go to the wireless adapter's properties in device manager and change the "Ad-Hoc Channel 802.11b/g" to 1 (default is 11). This seems to fix the problem of the wireless lan not finding any networks.
