    Hi,

I am thinking of upgrading my current SONY laptop.

It's a CW series with P8700 on it.

I am thinking of upgrading it to X9100 as someone on this forum is selling it.

Is it possible to upgrade the processor? I look at the back of the laptop and it only has 2 compartments. One for memory and the other one is for hdd.

If it's possible, do I need to open the whole laptop to change it or something else can be done? Is there any pic on how to change the processor?

    Thank you

Completely possible. But IDK about the X-series. It's going to make your CW run much hotter, and you can kiss your battery life goodbye. And to change the Processor, you'd need to dissassemble it, yes. But I'll give you good news there, because it's SUPER easy to get apart. Personally, I'd go with a higher P-series, like say the P9500 or P9700, where those will give you MORE battery life, and run cooler than the X-series by far. I've been all the way up to a Q9100 in my CW, but I ended up taking it back out, and going with the P8800. And I'll post back to this thread with my teardown images, so you can see...

    Here you go..

Hi, thanks for the answer and the link to it.

I was wondering how hot this baby would be if I decided to go with x9100?

I have another laptop, dell, which is using T7500. with 65nm technology and it only runs at 45 celcius.

I was wondering this one with a better technology 45nm would run cooler than T7500?

P9700 TDP is 28w while x9100 35w. Does it make a lot of different with only 7w different?

    thanks

X9100 is 45W TDP. So 25W for the P-series vs 45W for the X. Believe me, 45W is the EDGE of the CW's cooling capabilities. Under load it will get into the 90c+ territory. The CW's cooling system was mainly made for low-performing 35W Intel T-series or mid-high end 25W P-series.
