    Hi guys

    I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z26GN
Had it about 3 years, and want to get another 1 year use from it.
Fan is very noisy now and laptop always gets very hot.

I found a fan/heatsink for sale for about $76AUD+ shipping
Sony Vaio VGN-Z Series FULL Fan and Heatsink Assembly | eBay

Just wanted to get some advice on whether this is worth doing?
Is it very difficult to do (for an average technician) Anyone done it?

    Thanks

Have you tried simply cleaning the heatsink? Unless you are very unlucky after 3 years the fan should be okay, the thermal paste should still be okay and the heatsink/heatpipe design itself is nearly indestructible. Doing a thorough dust cleaning of the machine should have it fully working. If not changing the thermal paste could help.
