I have a Sony Viao FXA36 with the 1 gig amd chip and 384 megs of ram. The cmos battery is going because it loses time several times each week and the cd rom is not working 100%. Should i write it off or try to get it repaired. Open to all suggestions. Who would suggest to have it repaired if cost effective?

    Thanks

    Hi rdinak,
You will need to get an estimate of repairs to see if it is cost effective. Until then your just guessing. I looked on Ebay at completed auctions for this model w/384MB of memory and saw one that just sold a week or two ago for $812 and many others between $600-$800, so if it were repaired and is in good physical condition it could get $800 as well. So for me, I think I would get it fixed if it could be done for around $400 or less. That way you either use it or sell it for say $750 and recoup $350 towards a new one. Whereas if it is not working, it has very little value. I really don't think it will be that much to fix it; but you need to find out how much $$$$ repairs will be.
