I believe it is. I have a VGN-Z17GN (very old). Over the past couple of days I've gone from:

    - Toshiba 4500 RPM 320G HDD running Vista Business to Samsung 830 256G SSD running Windows 7 and Windows 8 (dual boot)

Needless to say, there is a huge jump between a HDD and an SSD. Going from Windows 7 to Windows 8, there is a smaller, but definitively noticeable increase in responsiveness in general use, and *much* faster boot times. I can't prove it, but the computer (i.e. the fan) seems to be quieter (i.e. runs less often). I'm using the Balanced setting with max CPU at 99% as someone on this forum suggested. (I've got S2 mapped to Thermal Control Strategy to cycle between Silent and Balanced Modes.)

The Windows 8 interface isn't my cup of tea, but I'm prepared to live with it for the things that are more important to me (faster boot/wake times, less fan noise and responsiveness) compared to Windows 7. If I'm not using Windows 7 after a week or so, I'm planning to get rid of the dual boot partition altogether.

There are a few caveats - don't use Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 8. FWIW it is free to use until January 2013, so where is the downside in giving it a good workout?
