Is the Blu-ray any good on the Vaio Z and worth the U/G?

    Hi All

I live in New Zealand and am contemplating between the Z 26 and the Z 27 series laptops....

    The Z26 in Sonys NZ website has 13.1 inch screen WXGA+ 1600x900, 3GBDDR3,320GB 7200 drive,P8600 cpu @ $1777US dollars

    The Z27 gets me a P9500 CPU, 4GB DDR3 and the Blu-ray drive @ $2670US dollars.

I was thinking of killing 2 birds with one stone to get the blu-ray in the laptop rather then buying it later and having yet another box sitting in the lounge.

Can i have some opinions on the quality of the drive? Is it really worth the u/g? Are there any benefits to buy a standalone blu-ray? Have there been any reported issues with the blu-ray on the Z ?

Also, id like to know if that extra CPU and 1 gb ram will actually be noticeable for me? I mainly do web browsing (10 odd tabs open at once in opera/firefox), watching movies, using word/excell/powerpoint for work....and connecting it to my sony bravia 42inch lcd which i use as a monitor...

    Thanks

    Rohun

If you are going to watch Blu-ray with your TV, a stand alone player would do a better job. Remote control, better sound, faster loading time, etc. Just make sure that your player supports BD Live and its firmware is upgradeable.

BTW: how widespread is Blu-ray market share in New Zealand? Do your guys have online rental like Netflix where you can rent Blu-ray on the cheap?
