Hello folks,
I'm going to buy a FW-390 tomorrow morning and I want to know if the Full HD Screen is necessary or not. I have heard that the X-Brite Eco's back lighting is uneven so some parts of the screen are dimmer than others which is simply unacceptable. On the other hand I have heard complaints regarding the Full HD about the fonts being too small due to the resolution being too high on such a small screen. So what would you guys recommend? Does anyone have enough experience with both of these screens to be able to compare and contrasts between the two? The Sony salesman is only going to recommend what costs the most so I need an honest opinion from someone who doesn't benefit from my purchase. I'm going to use the Laptop for a variety of things from School Work to Web Development btw. Thanks for your help!
Before anyone comes in here and says it yes I searched but I didn't find the answer to my question but thanks for your concern.

Well my previous Vaio screen was really nice that was XGA TFT This new one I have is dual lamp full HD and it blows the previous one away. If you're planning on weaving dreams on the machine I'd say do it in full HD if you can.
-
Hahahaha! Yes I actually do plan on weaving dreams and shopping photos so thanks for the advice. Do you have a problem reading fonts on your full HD by the way? In addition, would you recommend the ext battery with the full hd?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

I rarely use battery power so I can't really comment there.
Re Reading fonts...well if you look at my sig I'd say it's pretty small and I have abosolutely no issues reading any fonts on any website whatsoever, quite to the contrary I'd say it is easier to see the detail and differences between the fonts which is a big plus if you are weaving dreams!... as you can better evaluate the differences for usability purposes.
EDIT:
Also I'd say I've never had trouble reading fonts on any of the Vaio screens for that matter, only when I use external displays to display the image have I encountered blurred text and my vision is fine no glasses! -
I could only imagine someone reading this thread and thinking "What the hell is 'weaving dreams'?" I really don't want to buy the X-Brite HD but I just can't live with the regret of not getting it especially after you said that you have had no problems with it whatsoever. I'm excited to get the computer...I hope the White one looks nice.

lol .Whichever one you choose you won't regret anything.
-
Yeah I won't because I'ma get the Full HD! I don't want to go over 1 grand but with the Full HD, Service Plan, and Ext battery it only came up to 1050 with my student discount.

Ah ok, Are you on sonystyle.com in the states? I heard there are some good deals on at the moment if you configure your own machine and add in accessories and stuff (yes adding bags and mice apparantly brings the cost down?!)
-
Yeah, the CTO price starts off much cheaper than Sony's preconfigured models. They also have some bundles that really help you save a few dollars. SOny has been really good price wise lately.
-
I got it today I lucked out because I was in Best Buy and saw a FW235 going for 660! It had 4 gigs of ram and a 320gb hd which was a steal for the price. So not only did I save money I got a better computer!

actually the information you wanted was all posted in the FW thread quite a few times, regarding how even the lighting is, any bleeding of the light, better colours, deeper blacks, and smaller fonts.
-
It's a 200 page thread...no thanks.
-
Don't hesitate and choose Full HD as soon as possible
)
It is brighter than the Eco one. -
then how can you say you searched but found no answer?
no need to start a new thread either, could have asked in the FW thread.
but unfortuantely most fullHD screens vary, with some having a lot of light bleeding while others almost have very little. I myself am somewhere in the middle, with it only being noticeable when its in a dark room.
As for small font size, using the zoom function on the keyboard can solve such problems for some. Fn F10 to zoom in and Fn F9 to zoom out. Works rather well in IE, but not on the desktop.
Do post any photos of you FW if you can in the FW threads. -
Try upping the digital vibrance percentage if you can for your graphics card (default is 0% on my graphics card, setting it to 25% makes a HUGE difference when it's dark)
-
When you've had a few hours with your new FW would you answer some of the questions you had please.
-
Sweet! Enjoy weaving the dreams! I miss best buy : ( we don't have it in UK.
-
how big is the difference between the FullHD and the Eco screen? I have the FullHD screen and I am thinking of sending mine back for the Eco screen. The text on some websites are just too small. Also is the white one better than the black one?
-
Ah! but, BB are coming to the UK!
Is the Full HD Screen a Must Buy on the FW-390?
