    I think I may have screwed up and not gotten the premium model like I wanted.... I hope I'm wrong but the spec sheet that I'm reading says 1.0" to 1.5" high while the premium SZ490N/X and SZ470N/C shows shows .9" to 1.3" high.... I guess I assumed the 480 was the premium since 480 is between 470 and 491 and I could only customize a 440 and 480...

    It should be here in a couple of days and I will be so bummed if I don't have the backlit led screen...

    <sigh>

    OK, it may be a dumb question but is there a "Black Carbon Fiber Casing" AND a "Premium Black Carbon Casing"? Based on the other threads that I've seen it seems that the Black Carbon Casing is the "Premium" and magnesium is the standard.... are there two sz models (magnesium and Carbon) or three sz models (magnesium, carbon and premium carbon)???

    Also... on the spec sheet for the sz480 under LCD Display it states "13.3" WXGA" with no mention of LED back lighting while on the spec sheet for the sz491N/X it states "White LED back light for better quality and clarity"

    Height for the sz480 are 1" to 1.5" while the height for the sz491 is .9" to 1.3"

    The 480 is a premium model with the razon thin LED screen with the regular carbon fiber casing not the premium carbon fiber casing. I've had mine for about 2 weeks and it's great. Too bad for no premium carbon fiber though

    Awesome... that's a relief... I would have liked the premium carbon fiber casing as well but oh well... Sony doesn't make it easy to figure what's what that's for sure... For the near 3k$ I was spending for the laptop I thought the free engraving of my email address, office number and mobile number would be a worthwhile investment, unfortunately that's why I chose the 480 intead of the 491 and frrm what I've been reading I thought there were only two models the magnesium and carbon but I guess there are three: magnesium, carbon and premium carbon; it's a relief to know though that both *carbon* models include the LED backlit screen, although I wonder why the specs don't spell it out...

    Thanks for the reply, it should be here Wednesday.

    if the second digit is a 6 or higher then it's a premium model.

    From what I've gathered, the premium carbon fiber SZs are more widely available in Japan, less so in the US (which probably accounts for why it's so difficult to get any information at all on them --- state-side, anyway).

    Thanks everyone... the new toy *should* be here tomorrow so I'll let you know exactly what I get. I'm also getting the cingular activated so I'm excited about that since I'll be using it on the road next week so I'll be able to see how well the internet works since I'll have outlook open for email and I'll be using it for gps as well.
