I want to get this gaming laptop in the link below (except it will have a 320GB 5400RPM HDD instead (customised on sony style)). But I've heard quite a few people say that it won't play games very well. Now im not very interested in most PC games, mainly older pc games, but I would like to be able to play some newer games like sims 3, crysis, crysis warhead, etc. How would this laptop fair and if any one knows, how is it as an overall laptop?

Custom made vaio with these specs - £950:

My other alternative to buying that laptop would be to buy the acer in the link below, they have very similar specs and are both £950. My main concern is that the acer might not have as good a screen for blu-ray watching/overall use, however the acer has a 9600GT GDDR3 gpu rather than the Ati HD3650 GDDR3 in the vaio, though if there is minimal difference in gaming I would prefer the vaio.

I have the FW285 - I play Far Cry, Doom and Half Life (like FPS...). Computer does very well. Been swamped with work so have not played in a while, but settings for most are on medium/high and performs well. Also notebook stays surprisingly cool.

those are pretty old games, i would have thought with the specs it could play them at max with good fps.

You'll be able to play Crysis only at low/medium settings. This GPU is not a game bashing monster. And the 9600M GT is better then 3650 IMHO. If you are thinking about future games get something with 280M 260M GeForce Or ATI 4000 series. But overall this laptop is OK. Looks good, feels good, and works good :)

I don't think so mate. If you consider buying other brand laptop check www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk here you can customize your laptops quite a lot. But I don't like the looks on all of them. Anyways you might like it.
