Z preconfigured models are assembled in Japan.
Z CTO models are configured in USA with essentially the same parts as those used in Japanese assembly.

I'm not sure about SR, but CR are made in China.

    For USA market:

Pre-config SR is assembled in China.
SR-CTO is assembled in the USA.

Does anyone have evidence that the Pre-Config SR for the USA is made in China? I'm just skeptical that a machine that is still on the higher end of the spectrum for vaios would be configured in China. Seeing as the SR and Z are succesors to the SZ and SZ premium, respectively. The SZ(both reg and premium) were considered higher end sony notebooks.

The SR is not a high end notebook, its very nice looking but not high end. It comes in different colors and is targeted at college students like the CR is. Sony is marketing the Z as a high end, one difference is going to be "made in" logos

Well after thinking about it, I am now going to return my SR and get the Lenovo x200 after reading about its performance as well as its cool/quiet nature of the laptop. I heard that it is very silent, and very cool even though it offers pretty good performance.

You do realize that the x200 only has a trackpoint and the mouse buttons? Though, that probably won't matter if you have a USB/Bluetooth mouse to use it with I suppose...

Though, in your case, the x200 may be better for you. I don't know about the screen, but it may not matter for you.

Oh yeah, and my VGN-SR129E/B is indeed, Made in China. It says so on one of the Sony stickers.

There you go. The preconfigs... at least the 129E/B, was from China.

The trackpoint is ok, since I've used it before, and I'll prolly use a mouse half the time anyways.

So long as you buy an external optical drive, if you need one, you'll probably be alright. Well, you'll have to back-up your data, and what if your OS fails and you have to repair, reinstall, etc. XD

So yeah, but it probably does run quieter, as it doesn't even have an optical. (I have mine turned off all the time unless I am using it or switched power modes).

(BTW, I can't even hear my fan after about 3 feet from the laptop, it becomes inaudible... and I'm the person that usually hears things that nobody else does, so eh. It doesn't bug me one bit.)

So is the SR quiet and does the fan work hard continously like the xps m1330 or is it normal. And how much heat does it produce with the 7200rpm hdd and ATI gpu
