    Hi,

Can anyone let me know if the Z series in the UK is locked to T-Mobile or can Vodafone for example be used?

If it is can it be unlocked?

The Z series comes with a sim card for t-mobile.

    Thanks.

The hardware isn't locked, but the software used to configure a connection and connect to WWAN is... at least on the default Vista install.

To get around this, you could either get an unlocked copy of GlobeTrotter Connect, some other third party WWAN software, or you could downgrade to XP. The UK versions all come with Vista Business and thus an automatic licence to legally downgrade to XP - and Sony helpfully provide a disc in the box to help you do just that (once you've burnt your Vista recovery DVDs first, just in case, of course). The XP version of GlobeTrotter Connect supplied on the Sony website isn't branded T-Mobile like the Vista version and seems to work just fine with any SIM. At least that's my experience. ;)

Yup, that's what I meant by third party WWAN software. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

    Hi,

I have a Z11 and have inserted my Vodafone SIM & installed the Vodafone Connect 9.3.3.x s/w.

However, although the device is listed in VF s/w - I am unable o make it active.

I am using Vista & the SIM is working.

Can you advice how I get mine working, either via third pary s/w,if so what ? or how I configure the Vodafone software to enable connection?

    Many Thanks,
    Trev

Guys has anyone managed to get this working, I have tried everything in the forums and i cannot get my laptop to see Orange, BT Mobile or vodafone sims, I am starting to think it is faulty and will try the T Mobile SIM (I have a vodafone contract so want to stick with that)

no matter which software I use, I am getting 'device not found???' i have rebuilt the machine twice so I have a clean install and the modem appears in device manager???

    any pointers greatly appreciated

    regards

    Kerry

Doesn't Sony supply "Globetrotter Connect" for the Z?

They do for the SZ and Vista.

This software lets you use any SIM.
