Planning to pick up a 1 year old used SZ650N tonight. Based on the pictures from the seller, it looks clean and the user is a female user. Hope she never abuse her laptop.

May I know is this laptop robust and reliable even after 1 year ?

    Please advise ASAP.

Got the laptop tonight and the female seller never abuse her lp and it looks like new with very minor wear. I am happy with the build of my first Vaio laptop so far.

SZ's are very high end Sony laptops, so you shouldn't have any problems after several years of use I imagine. Congrats on the purchase!

Only one issue... the NVidia cards.... this isn't Sony's faut and SZ's live exceptionally long with them, but if you buy it fo the NVidia I have gto disappoint you that after 1-2 years the card will possibly die.

If you use the Intel Chipset most of the time you have nothing to worry about.

I own an SZ7 - very well built and a very beautiful laptop (I was even desperate to get it before the Z came out)
I use the Intel X3100 all the time, seldomly the NVidia as I have no use for it....

And I adore my little Vaio :) :)

yeah SZ are great laptop ... has not given me one single problem since i bought it in dec 2007.. love it to bits !

and yeah i dont use the Nvidia graphics card only the X3100

alot of people say that they want more powerful processors but IMO there no point for so such a powerful processor firstly it runs too hot and the fan will start kicking in which is pretty loud.

when i set my power setting to "high performance" the fan will get pretty loud so most of the time ill be using power saver to keep my processor speed at 60% instead of 100% (high performance mode)

"on the go" run my Vaio on max battery save - processor is downclocked to 1,6GHz ... CD drie switched off... :D

At home I use Vaio optimised - I get my ful 2,5GHz - and cooling is no problem, yes, the fan kicks in every now and then, but not often and is no nuissance.

icic... cool ill give other power options a try and see. i didnt know vaio optimised give you full 2.5GHz. whats the difference between options "optimised" and "high performance" ?

and the difference between "on the go" and "power saver" ??

    thanks in advance

Vaio optimized allows the intel speedstepping.

If "high performance" is the same as it was on XP then it'll lock the laptop on the highest multiplier...
