Is the vaio screen really anti-reflective? Does it even come close to a matte screen?

    Hey guys,

I am considering some laptops and the sony vaio is one of them. I have heard great things about the screen but it is glossy, something I have sworn off all these years. I have seeing reflections on my screen.
Can anyone report on how the anti-reflective screen performs?
    Thanks!
    Mario

The semi-matte screen of the Z is miles ahead of the glossy screens you see from its competitors. Is it really matte? No, but the glare isn't too annoying.

    Thanks ckthepilot,

Can you see reflections off of it? Is the Z the only one that is anti reflective or do the FW and CW series have the same finish? I am hoping to maybe check it out in the store so if you can let me know which do or which don't it would be great!

I'm compare latest MBP 15" and my VPCZ1 now on my desk...

I'm definitely say; if Z screen is called glossy, MBP screen is exactly a mirror :D

    Thanks Reason,
OK, so it seems that the Z is actually pretty non reflective, but are the CW and FW the same screens? It would seem that at least the anti-reflective coating is, but how about the panels. The Z is really expensive compare to those for the same machine.

The Z screen I have is a back lit led display, it looks fantastic, for a screen I think the glossy displays from the mac look the best but are very impractical because of the reflection you get from the screen. The Z's look almost as good but without the gloss.... which makes more sense for a laptop.

I can safely say as I'm typing this with my Z, you won't be disappointed with the 13" 1600x900 display it is nice.

The Z has an awesome screen despite it not being glossy. I can actually use it outdoors.

I heard this was a TN panel. If so, I don't understand how the viewing angles could be that great. I wonder how it compares to the Lenovo T410/410s, HP 8440p or Dell e6410 screens. Anybody know of any ips laptops out there?

The Z screen is one of the better screens out there :) The Lenovo T410s screens (and possibly any other competitors' screens) are dull compared to the Z. It's like comparing a hot girl in Megan Fox vs Ugly Betty. There is no comparison. I hate matte screens as much as I hate glossy screens. The Z offers a strinking balance between the two extremes which I enjoy very much.

Like everyone has said above, the screen is not too glossy, but it does reflect some of what is behind you. However, I find the backlight on the 1600x900 screen to be very powerful and if you do find yourself reflecting whatever is behind you, turning up the brightness should do the trick =)

Do the rest of the vaios have the same coating? If so I can check it out in best buy to see if I like it.
