Is there a "cooler" notebook than the tz195?

    So,

Cost no object, I'm looking at getting the sweetest ultraportable in existence... is the tz195 the best one out there? I want to hear from people who have it... do you regret your purchase or have you found another computer since buying your tz that has made you want to swap?

I am mostly talking about stylishness and form factor. I like the idea of few to no moving parts as well.

i'm sorry i don't own one, but if i were looking for ultra-light ultra portable i'll be looking at the TZ. and i also like that they pack in a SSD drive, so it will not be that fragile (all HDD are fragile IMHO) and speedy.

edit: you sure you like ultra portable? their screen are damn small and all the text is also very small, since they pack so many pixel in such a small space. also small laptop are ergonomics nightmare, you need to bend your back so you can see the screen, causing all sort of back/neck ache if you use for extended period of time.

The Fujitsu P7230 is worth a look. Also the Asus U1.

And if you want a slightly bigger display than the TZ but even less weight then look out for the Sony G2 / G21.

Depends what you want in an ultraportable. Spec wise, the G and TZ are pretty much the same. It comes down to form factor. The TZ is a widescreen, G standard aspect ratio. Two totally different keyboard options.

Now, the TZ can have the optional HD or DVD, not an option on the G - DVD or no. But the G is much lighter than the TZ. No WWAN option on the G.

Different strokes for different folks. The G is much more durable (IMO - it's more like a Toughbook in its design and the way it was conceived), but you can't beat the looks of that 10th anniversary edition of the TZ.

I own the G1 and love it (mine has the 32GB SSD). I'm trying to justify the upgrade just to get the 64GB SSD.

I have a TZ191 (exactly the same as TZ195 but 32gb SSD instead of 48)

I dont regret it at all. Its the best looking and coolest notebook ever. It runs GREAT. If you need extra space get a 8gb memory stick. Thats what I did :D

If you need EVEN MORE you can get the 16gb SDHC card.

So. Do it man. Id do it again if I had to.

the refresh of the G is awesome though core 2 duo webcam and tz so its basically the same machine except for screen and form factor. Like most people once you go widescreen you dont go back.

Not true - I owned the SZ for about a year (still do but it's collecting dust lol) and went to the G. No regrets. It was a slight adjustment at first but I hate the resolution of the TX/TZ screens. Had they done something normal like the SZ (i.e. 1280x800) and not something kooky, it's be much more readable IMHO

There are very few times I miss the widescreen. And I never used the webcam on the SZ, so it's a miss for me anyway. Waste of laptop space to me :)

I'm a tough customer - I live on the road. I've destroyed some laptops due to the rigors of the road. The G so far is standing up well.

    No,
    TZ is 1366*768px = 1049088 pixels on 11,1inch screen (51,8sq inch) = 19 866 pixels on 1sq inch
    SZ is 1280*800px = 1024000 pixelsi on 13,3inch screen (72,3sq inch) = 14 163pixels at 1sq inch
    ;)

if you're looking at form factor you might also want to consider the toshiba portege r500 for it's weight and thickness (or rather, thinness)

The resolution of the TZ vs. the SZ makes it appear much smaller even though the screen sizes are not radically different. I owned a U70, so I know small, but I just prefer a 1280x800 resolution (or whatever x800, not 768) to what Sony gives on the TZ series.
