Is there any point in waiting for penryn processors if price is a concern for me?

I just managed to get the CTO FZ290 for an awesome price ($770) over the phone. Since I'm on such a limited budget I had to get the T5250 (1.5GHz) processor. I don't have any more money for upgrades.
It seems that the penryn processors everyone is talking about is more on the high end side. So is there any point in waiting, since I'm on such a tight budget? I can always return my new FZ when it arrives.
    Thanks.

With no AMD competition, I wouldn't be surprised if Penryn is more expensive than the processors it will replace.

I vaguely recall that dual-core Penryn has a 10% increase in performance, and a major reduction in energy consumption, which will allow longer battery life and slimmer designs. I also seem to recall that the full benefit of Penryn won't be seen until the Montevina motherboards come out this summer.

If these factors are unimportant to you, or price is real tight, I don't think you should wait for Penryn.

What about in a TZ? Should be possible to put the Penryn later on?

TZ doesn't use Santa Rosa platform processors, so no. Plus, I don't think its possible to upgrade the low voltage processor on the TZ.

    Ok,thanks.

So, I guess for seeing Penryn inside the TZ we will have to wait the Montevina to be released. Maybe the next refresh. :) Anyway, I'm not in a hurry.

Everything is correct except you will see considerable price cut on existing c2d models once Penryn is come out. So you can buy the current FZ at a much cheaper price than now

    you can do that?

i bought an FZ2 series recently, how difficult is this to do compared to pc upgrades of similar nature?
    Is it worth the effort?
and whats the price to buy separately?

    2) Depends on what you're using the notebook for, and to which speed you're upgrading to. Also look at this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=202591
    3) Penryn hasn't been released yet, and I haven't seen any prices for it.. You can use a website like Newegg.com to see the current Santa Rosa prices and get an idea from those.
