Ive not had my AR series Vaio for long, about 2 months approx. Already i have noticed that the finish on the keyboard is starting to fade, on the Vaio AR series its like a matt dull finish which looks nice but already my spacebar has become very shiny where the finish has faded. All i use to wipe my keyboard is a microfibre cloth that is lightly damp then i wipe it dry with the other side so i don`t leave any streaks. Ive noticed a few of the other keys are starting to get a shine as well.
Is this acceptable for such a high end machine thats just 2 months old and has been lightly used ?

Anyone ? Surely a few must have AR series Vaio`s or other similar Vaio`s where you can tell me if the finish has come off your keyboard very quickly ?

To your question my Fz190 has some shiny spots like you mention after a year of HEAVY (8 hours per day) use.

A couple of people have noticed on their Z series that the finish wears off a bit quickly. I do not however know how heavy their laptop usage is, though given that the Z has been out for approximately 4 months or so, this would be either much faster, or they use their laptops a whole ton, or both.
-
Like i said above, my laptop is just 2 months old and its supposed to be an expensive flagship AR model so you wouldn`t expect the finish to start coming off so soon with it costing so much and seeing as i hardly use it. -
I have the same problem with my FZ21Z. Spacebar, some of the keys and the palm rests are starting to get shiny.
I wonder if the newer series (i.e. FW) have the same problem. -
Do you have a picture we can see to make sure that it's not just normal wear?
-
VAIO TX used daily for the past year, moderate-heavy typing with no fading at all.
-
Its happened to all my previous laptops as well, HP and Toshiba but on all of them, the lettering itself hasn't faded away, its just the matte surface of the keys has become worn down and smooth.
The TX model's keyboards (which I owned for a short time) are of a different finish than the TZ and other Vaio models, its finish is already somewhat smooth. Some other notebook keyboards like on Toshiba's current consumer notebooks also are already smooth as you can see below.

You can clearly see the wear on the space bar though, the laptop is only 2 months old and i don`t use it all that much especially the keyboard. Is this acceptable for the finish to wear so quickly, some of the other keys are starting to go shiny as well.
-
I would say thats how it is I'm afraid. I have the same keyboard with the FZ and there are parts of the keys that got 'shiny' but thats after nearly 1 year of normal usuage.
-
I need to change te name model of my VAIO it is setting other model that not correspond with the original . How can I change it.?
Anyone who can help me? -
I think this wear is normal, but the time span is not really. I've never heard of other users having this issue after only 2 months. A year, maybe, but 2 months is rather fast, considering you don't even use it that much.
-
could be the particular oils in your skin causing accelerated decrepitude thereupon
-
Hi, I also have these issues, right part of space bar is "smooth" as well as some letters like T, I N. Quite dissapointed, few months old "top model Z590"
. Funny thing Enter key is totally ok. Wierd!
Is this normal with Sony Vaio keyboards, the finish fading quickly ?
