Sony Japan has just officially announced their latest release of Sony SZ notebook:

    163,800 Yen > $1 401.07 USD

I betcha' they'll slap a $3,999 price tag over here. Absolutely distressing.

The price is misleading! 163,800 Yen will only buy you Celeron M 1.73 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD, NO blue tooth, NO motion eye camera, NO finger print sensor, Win XP Home, Standard battery and NO carbon fiber chasing.

The full blown system will cost you 359,800 Yen (3070 US Dollars)
    WinXP Home
    Premium Carbon Fiber
    Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    160 GB HD
    Blue Tooth
    Finger Print Sensor
    English Keyboard
    Standard Battery
    Standard 3 Year Warranty

You can configure the notebook before you buy.

Of course, that's only for Japanese customer!

The Japanese are very strict about selling these machines outside Japan.

When I was in Japan twice and approached them to ask about buying a machin, they were very guarded the moment they noticed that I couldn't speak Japanese.

I figured that those machines were going to be one generation faster (i.e. 3 months ahead) of those over here anyway (And some of the most interesting models don't even show up here...remember the limited edition carbon fiber S or the Fujitsu P7xxx series with built in digital TV tuner?) and wanted to procure one.

That aside, I'd have to say that they have great service, I've been very impressed with them.

Funny how they advertise it having a 7h battery life with the standard battery and 10.5h with the extended battery.

Subtract 5 hours from each end of the spectrum, and that should be about right.

The SZ381 comes with 160 Gb HD and 2.16 Core 2 Duo.

I don't think the 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo Sony SZ will hit U.S. market anytime soon. The Japanese version is always one step ahead. They are not for sale in the U.S. and therefore can't be bought without using a third party importer.

Silly me; didn't notice the 2.33 Ghz. I guess I'm just more interested in reasonable Merom prices; I would not want to pay such a premium on a 2.33 Ghz. Let the Japanese knock themselves out with it.

Does this new sz have a DVI port? That would be amazing.

Try searching the word ''dvi'' in the first link of this post.

    That's what you get:

    (DVI-Dタイプ)
Does this mean this sz has dvi port??? I would buy it inmediatly... haha

The notebook itself doesn't have a DVI port but you can connect it to a DVI monitor if you use its docking station (sold separately).

I probably have to take my statement back.

    http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/DocsConnect/docget.asp?manualid=74209&DL=true

According to the link, one of the available configuration is 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo. Hmmm, does it mean that 2.33 GHz will be sold in the U.S.?
