Congrats, I know how exciting it is to get a new laptop, or any piece of nice electronics for that matter. Can't wait to upgrade to a new one soon. Just don't damage the laptop while ripping apart the box frantically to get to it. ;)

Granted my prior laptop was a Compaq v2000. It still works great and has a good picture. I have had it three years upgraded the ram about two months ago as it was needing it.

    nice, take some pictures.

you should follow one of the threads and do a clean or semi-clean install. it'll work wonders.

if thats the case, then remove and delete anything you dont need and remove them from start up (msconfig) and also, if you dont need norton, remove that as well (go to the norton site about removing, dont just delete it, you'll have problems). and see if thats sufficient enough for you. it should speed things up quite a bit

First things first! Make the DVD recovery set. It takes two DVD's. Do that before you do anything else. Once those are in your hands you can easily attempt a clean or semi-clean install. There is nothing you can do that can't be undone with the DVD recovery set. So give it a try. It does make a BIG difference.

I wrote the clean install instructions for the FZ series machine (link in my signature below), so if you have any questions or need some help just drop me a note.

I didnt. I uninstalled Norton and some other worthless junk. I have to get the Vaio dvd per instructions, so I will get that item then this weekend I will do a clean install. It looks like I am gonna take awhile to complete the process so I wanna make sure I have the time and that I have no interruptions.

You don't use the F10 trick to make the DVD's. It's done within Vista. Click Start | All Programs | VAIO recovery Center. And as roor said, as long as the recovery partition is in place it does not matter if you took Norton off the machine. The recovery DVD's are built from the recovery partition, NOT from the contents of the C: partition.
