    Hey guys,

I have a VW with the Full HD screen. Playback is very choppy on sites like Hulu, Youtube, and Megavideo in full screen. Keeping it small let's them play fine.

I tried a wired connection (though my wireless is fast) so it isn't a speed problem. Even if I let them load, it is very choppy.

If I reduce the resolution to the next step down, they seem to play a lot better.. but kind of defeats the purpose of the 1920x1080 full hd monitor for me.

I have the latest version of flash. Any ideas what I can do to make it run smooth?

EDIT: I also installed the latest version of shockwave, vlc (and firefox plugin), and tried it in both IE and firefox.

The videos you are watching are not 1080p. Higher the resolution, the more choppier the low resolution videos.

Well, by choppy, I don't mean low-res looking - I mean the video plays jerky, as if it is missing frames.

I partially wanted the Full HD screen because I use my computer to watch streaming video a lot. Now, I'm getting worried I won't be able to view the streaming video because it'll be too jerky..

also happened to me when i resized my browser view to 125%... yes, low res videos are small for a 1920x1080, but when you try to full size it, it's gonna be choppy and blurry

Yeah, I understand it'll be blurry or the video quality will be poor - but should it lag and stop every second with jerky motion?

Is your internet slow? Try updating your graphics card driver.

My wireless internet runs at 7 Mbps and wired runs at 12 Mpbs. I have the latest version of the 4650 drivers.

Mine's occasionally choppy and hangs, but it's definitely due to buffering because it only happens when i use my friend's wireless connection in his basement. They run fine when i use a wired connection. I was using hulu, and i used the high-res (480p) clip.

The problem is with Adobe Flash. I believe this happens because your CPU doesn't recognize Flash as an intensive program meaning that it will downclock itself even when Flash is requiring more processing. However, this hasn't happened to me in a while (a year or so) and I've never heard of a fix.

Mine has no problem playing 1920x1080 videos, but that is from my external hard drive through VLC not streaming from the web in Firefox. I recommend making sure your GPU is actually on "optimal performance" rather than "optimal battery life". The best way to do this it to plug in your laptop and use 'High Performance' mode. Or you can fiddle with your power settings. In High Performance mode, the GPU will clock up as much as it needs rather than being limited to a certain clock or power draw. The CPU doesn't need to be fully clocked if you'd still like to save battery, my P8700 runs at 1.6 GHz while watching movies.

Okay, so I used the restore service to format and reinstall everything to factory defaults and it looks like video is running perfectly now.

I only had the computer for 2 days and to test, I reinstalled everything I had before (avast and some random other stuff) and it is still running fine. So, I'm not sure what was going on, but it appears fixed.

Actually the "Balanced" power profile seems to be the best choice. There is an entire thread about this in the Windows forum here. It allows full performance of CPU and GPU when called for but throttles back when it safely can (unlike "Optimal Performance"). Here is a link: Power Plan "Controversy"

Ah, thanks for the interesting read. I've been messing with power settings, and balanced seemed to work well when on battery, where as I used high performance when plugged in. Perhaps I'll try balanced while plugged in so it can cool down...
