Awesome deal. Remember my ASUS Z83V is about to go for repair so i got this to use in the meantime and trying it out. Seeing if i like it better and would sell the ASUS. But definitely 15.4>17'' I really appreciate how much lighter and smaller a laptop is to carry around.
Besides if i do decide to keep this, ill put in the 1gb ram from the asus into here and swap the 4200 and 5400rpm HDs.

Its not the "3D" Windows just has the Aero theme which needs a dedicated GPU.
Its cool if your happy with it though, thats what counts -

If I didnt get the ASUS at all, I most likely would be more tempted to getting the FE. But right now, Im just wanting something by what I need.
I wouldnt say my ASUS "owns" the sony, if so it would be from the performance of the X700. But I dont play games on my laptop anyways - dont even know why I got the X700. Sony doesnt own the ASUS for looks, the z83v is quite stunning too. Its close though, they both look delicious.
But one aspect that the Sony owns the ASUS is the LCD. The VAIO tends to look cheaper with the white look n all, but still built pretty well. Though id still give the edge to ASUS in build quality. Time will tell some more...
-
Just look at the picture, the Sony straight owns the Asus's looks. But thats my opinion - everyone has there own. Why would you buy a new notebook if you didnt need it (you had the Asus). I know its cheap but thats not a reason lol.
LCD on the sony beats the Asus for sure though. -

Right now, its hard to say. Honestly, Im not overly crazy about the looks on the ASUS, but over time I was able to appreciate the simplicity of it and the dark colours that make it very elegant looking.
The VAIO on the other hand does look very sexy. Though I prefer the all black (dark colour at least) look, white is ok too, I would have to get used to it. I heard they do require constant cleaning to not turn dark. VAIO would look much better though if the white area was black, just my opinion. But what makes the VAIO sexy is how remarkably thin this thing is, like wow! And its so simple and classy.
I thought the LCDs would have been close, but Sony is on a whole new level. I think its safe to say nobody is on the same level with sony when it comes to LCD. Toshiba is probably the best next to them.
The sony might be worth keeping just for the screen alone. But ASUS has the support and Sony doesnt. -
I guess so. But you still didnt exactly say why you bought the FS. About it being white, I think the cleaning part is a bit lame but its worth it, the white is a beauty and easy makes a VAIO stand out in a crowd or anywhere you take it out, just like the iPod's. Toshiba's screens are a joke, HP on the other hand have quite a comparison.

Really? Thats odd cause the HP i brought back today, I thought was very mediocre for LCD quality. Hence the keyboard was just atrocious on it, typewriter like (uhh)
What is the best way to clean the white area? Just damp tissue? Once a week? What I do like about this is how the keys are thinner.
I agree on the white standing out, that is true. It may look cheap, but its unique. And I would much rather have white than the overly done and beatened "silver fad" in electronics today.
I got this because my ASUS is off monday to to depot. So I would have no other computer at home LOL. No way I could go without a comp at home for up to 2 weeks. so thats why
Now when I think about it, yes the ASUS would own the Sony. But if I decide to keep the Sony, I will be moving that 5400rpm HD from the ASUS to this LOL. But that makes me wonder, will it be harder to sell that ASUS with a 4200rpm drive? Or will it matter really. -

you wanna know a big reason id be keeping the sony if i do? Look at the palmrests. With the asus, you are unable to rest your palms on it because they would sink 2/3 down your arm and it was annoying.
But the difference, wow! The Z83V would be much better if it was a bit thicker and less deep. I do love how thin it is, but its too big area wise.
Also, 17 is too big to lug around. If I keep the sony, id be also getting a 20.1'' widescreen LCD to hook up to when at home.

Like a typewriter, what **** man. Im doing a review soon and will be comparing some LCD's in it. Sony vs HP so check on that.
About leaving your ASUS, you spent 1300$cnd on a laptop because you couldnt wait for 2 weeks. Wow man you must be loaded...jk I couldnt live without the notebook for 2 days and **** 2 weeks is just crazy.
Yeah a damp tissue should be enuf to clean it. Then after that swipe a dry tissue and finish the job off.
The white doesnt look cheap, **** man when people hear or see the VAIO sign, its obvious its not cheap. -
Look, the palmrest thing I know what you mean. I have the same problem on my HP, but my SZ is thin like the FS so its awesome. But you have to remember one is 17" while another is 15.4", which explains the difference in the size.

Well Im not saying the VAIO looks cheap, its far from it. But compare white to black and nobody will say that white stuff looks as good as black. I dont know, its just me but i think black is so elegant. -
Yeah agreed with you there. My SZ is black.

my bro in law does this exact same thing, except he has a 14.1 and hes always asked why I got a 17 DTR Lol -
Think about me man, my HP is a 15.4" widescreen, MASSIVE notebook, its a desktop replacement. I was like **** no, I cannot stand this anymore, plus it has a pentium 4 ht. I cut down to a 13.3" after a long think, and after a long discussion between FE and SZ.
