To start things off, I'm quite amazed with this machine. It might be because it's my first hands-on experience with a dual core processor, but I like the looks, silence, feel, and cool temperatures of this machine. Now movin' on to the question.
I booted up the notebook for the first time, and Vista's Welcome Center gave me all the information I already knew the laptop had. Being new to Vista as well, I started poking around some system information, wondering if anything could tell me the FSB speed of my machine, as I wasn't familiar with the T7100's speed. Upon further poking, I happened upon the Device Manager, and looked under the processor heading. Apparently what Vista thinks is a T7100, 1.8 GHz processor my Device Manager sees as a T7300 2.0 GHz processor. Would this be the result of a jumper or something restricting the speed physically, or is the clock speed simply a little low, and how might I speed it up if this is the case? The version of BIOS apparently doesn't have a speed manipulator.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer!

Bump, any ideas?

What does the spec sheet say it is? What does the BIOS say it is?
And when you say "Vista thinks it's a T7100", where in Vista are you seeing that? And did it actually say "T7100" or did it just say "1.8 GHz"?
I'd believe the BIOS over any other source.
Finally, is your model the "VGN-FZ140E/B"? Amazon seems to think it's the T7100. -
If the fs140e is a pre-built, not customized, then maybe they had old units ready to ship and just swapped out motherboards and processors without reloading vista.
You can try uninstalling one processor from device manager and reboot the system. It should then load the proper driver. -
Um... I've never heard of drivers for CPUs.

sorry, I meant that if windows is installed, it will search sytem to determine
board, processor, etc. If any of these are replaced without re-installing windows it will usually maintain info from original install. changed items can usually be updated by uninstalling device from device manager then rebooting sytem to let windows recognize new component. -
I didn't read a thing you've said ...
just wanted to come in and say
REFORMAT YOUR COMPUTER.
If you think your computer is fast now, just wait until you reformat it! It will ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM ZOOOOM ZOOOOM. VROOOM VROOOM VROOOOOM.
yeah, I think you get my point. -
