Both drives will be internal.

Are you absolutely sure duffyanneal... I am planning to buy one based on your advice... I just dont want to repent on my decision later...
Thanks for replying.... -
both drives will be internal- guaranteed.
-
Prepare to pay another $400 in duties when you get it.
-
But of course, the premium for..... being Canadian...
-
You can always undervalue the item and pay less
-
if some happens to it while being delivered, he would only be compensated for the undervalue amount. depends on whether or he wants to take an expensive risk.
-
Of course. But specially with other couriers except EMS the risk is really minimum, something like 0,002%.
-
Is this too good to be true?

This Ebay seller is selling the TZ with 32gb SSD, 2 gb ram, etc. for only $2300!
Has to be a pricing error. -
Are EMS prone to losing items? I am debating whether or not to use EMS (the cheap option) or someone like DHL/UPS/Fedex (the expensive option).
-
I'm a bit wary of this price. Even if you go to sony japan and price it straight, it comes out to more than $2300. The seller even listed the screen as OLED (an obvious mistake). But being that seller is a power seller, I would email him and confirm everything including warranty issues.
but if this is true, than the price is very good and I would jump on it in an instant.
the one I have is TZ90HS, not sure what the difference is in the lettering. -
the lettering only indicates the version of vista that's installed.
maybe the guy meant 3299 instead of 2299... -
Outtrigger.
TZ90S = Vista Home Premium
TZ90HS = Vista Home Basic
TZ90NS = Vista Business -
Yes, EMS has a lot of history on losing or damaging items. If you don't take a risk to undervalue the product go with EMS, because anyway you are covered if something happen, but if you're thinking of declaring less take the UPS/DHL option that they are much more safe.
-
Dynamism wont even undervalue, I asked.
-
Does somebody here know where I can buy a lightweight battery of the Vaio TZ in North America besides Dynamism? Will SonyStyle carry TZ lightweight batteries?
-
It looks like they will not. I looked at the product manuals for the different North American TZ models and the lightweight battery is not listed as an offered accessory, just standard and bulk.
Its part number is VGP-BPS11 by the way. Two places I found it on Ebay.

Anybody have comments to my list? All are welcome. Im ordering mine over the weekend.
Case: VGP-CVT1/T anybody have some pros or cons?
Color: Premium Carbon, I read somewhere that this is actually more sturdy?
Hard Drive: 32 Flash + Dvd Burner or the biggest Hd, but then I loose the functionality of the media buttons. Is it possible to have both- interchangeable?
1seg antenna? Why not? -
Case: The VGP-CVT1/T is not a case is a carrying cover.
http://www.geekstuff4u.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=537
I would suggest the [VGP-CKTZ2/B] Carrying Leather Case.
http://www.geekstuff4u.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=536
Colour: Me too i chosen the Carbon Fibre. But i didnt have it yet so i can't tell you if is sturdy.
Hard Drive: Is totally personal issue. Depends on what you going to do with this lappy. If you are a heavy multimedia user would be better a big storage as the 160 GB. On the other hand if you use a lot the optical drive go for it.
The antenna works only in Japan.
From where you ordered it? Battery? -
For battery I swing both ways, the lightest as well as the largest.
Still cant decide on the DVD/HD- read somewhere that without the DVD you loose the media-button functions. So the jury is still out. -
So I should get the antenna as well, moving there in less than 2 years.
-
Conics is my best bet. Checked out dynamism, geek, japan, as well as some others.
-
Sony VGP-DDRW4 Super-Multi Drive, anybody used this? Nice design and pricey too.
-
If the description of the people who sold me my TZ is correct, in fact all models are made of the same carbon material - the only difference is the color. I have the premium carbon model, which is very attractive and could entail more cost to make. However, even the none premium colors enjoy the same carbon strength and lightness.
I have the 160GB hard drive. You do not "lose the functions of the media buttons" but must have your OS booted to use them. I have been using my desktop computer's DVD drive to burn DVDs to my TZ, so I haven't even had the expense of buying an external DVD. Also, playing movies from the HDD takes up less battery power than a DVD. I find it great when going on a trip or whatever to throw 5 DVDs on the HDD, which means you don't have to carry the disks.
-
I ordered the SEG1 ... i'm planning to move to Japan by November hopefully if I pass my Japanese proficiency exam I'm required to take *crosses fingers*
I've seen SEG1 on the mobile phones over there. It's pretty neat and only a second delay from the original broadcast. -
you are correct that all models regardless of color are made of carbon fiber. The premium carbon (which is the color I chose) costs the same to make as other colors. The only difference is that you can see the carbon fiber weaving on this color than the 3 other colors. There's actually nothing more premium on the premium carbon than the others, it just sounds better than calling it "carbon". Sony has been known to call things premium just to make it sound better

The first review of the TZ with the SSD:

Wow. thanks for the link to the review! It makes it very difficult to wait to order such a beauty!

Can you easily replace the 32gb SSD with a 64gb when it comes out? I think Samsung already has some for sale.
If so im buying one in Singapore in a week or so if not ill wait till they come out with 64gb SSD. -
Some people dont realise how popular these things are going to be with SSD. I've owned Thinkpads and Toshiba laptops in the past and I've had to replace hard drives in every one Ive owned. I travel worldwide with the laptop and usually get between 12 months to 2 years before a HD failure.
-
I just hope the lightweight batteries for the TZ doesn't discontinue too soon. Only a small handful of people here in this forum actually bought it.
-
I bought my TZ with lightweight battery, and it goes for 2-3 hours with wireless on. I hope this would help you.
-
It also depends on the brightness of your screen. I hope it's enough to last 3.5 hours with SSD. It's a magic number for me.
Have you tried to play a long DVD movie on a single charge from a lightweight battery? -
You will be able to replace it, is it going to be easy? well that is up to your guts, you will need to open you laptop fully to gain access to the harddrive. I will change mine out once the 64 gig or 120 gig's come out. I have already swapped out my 160gig hd and wireless card in the sony.
-
Here's another review, don't think it was posted yet.
http://laptopmag.com/Review/Sony-VAIO-VGN-TZ150N.htm -
Yeah I was just wondering if it was fixed in place or just attached like a normal HD so you can easily un clip it so to speak.
-
Just screwed in like a normal harddrive. I have done a couple of SSD installs in other notebooks like Asus and Dell's and they are all made just to replace an std harddrive. The SSD in our notebooks are 1.8inch drives so once the new ones come out in that size with our connector we are in business.

Ok thanks that's good news. I'm heading through Singapore next week so I may pick one up then. The prices seem quiet good in Singapore as the Sing dollar is pretty much fixed to the US so its value has dropped a lot recently.
-
Hi,
Looking to get one of these bad boys and I had a question.
Does anyone know if it would be possible to add a 1.8" SSD later if I just purchase the 160 GB 2.5" HDD version? I mean there should still be an empty area where a 1.8" drive should be located right? Will there still be a SATA connector there though?
Thank you. -
I was wondering the same myself, to add your own 1.8" drive in there if you order with only the 160gb hard drive. Also, how hard is it to switch out the 2.5" hard drive balto?
-
As far as I know, the SSD drives use the same SATA connector, and are the same size as the traditional HDs, so I would imagine its not gonna be a problem at all.
-
I think the special ATA connector which connects the 1.8 drive to the board will be missing. It is very unlikely that sony puts a loose connector in there just for the case people want to upgrade themselves.
-
I actually had mine open this weekend swapping out the 160GB drive for a 200 GB 7200 RPM HDD. I didn't think that Sony would include the ability to install an additional drive either. Where the SSD would normally be there was a metal frame work (I assume to strenthen the chassis). There was also a ZIF connector which looks like the kind that would be used with the SSD. It is integrated into the same ribbon cable as the HDD.
So I think you can install an additional drive. You'll just have to remove the frame work and figure out a way to mount the drive. I'll take some pics the next time I'm in there. -
Other than the extra 40 GB in storage space, have you noticed a considerable upgrade in performance with the 7200rpm HDD? What about battery life - has that taken a hit?
-
How easy/hard was it to replace the hard drive?
-
This may not be the correct thread, but I have to figure this out.....

That looks like an equivalent model for your market.
Just bought the Sony VAIO TZ90!!
