It took me 3 weeks to get this baby, and I almost cancelled my order three times. Turns out, it was worth every minute of waiting.

My quest to find a ~14" widescreen, dockable, discrete-graphic notebook has come to a glorious end. What an amazing piece of hardware. With 2GHz/2GB/100GB/BT/XBrite, paired with the dock and a DELL 20" widescreen monitor via DVI, I am in heaven.

The one issue I'm having (and I'm sure there will be more) is the touchpads "Web Assistant" feature - it's not working. I have enabled "visual feedback", and sure enough it confirms that I hit the right spot (top center of the tp), but no matter what i do - swiping my finger left or right, it has no effect on the browser. The visual feedback even "presses" the correct button, it just does nothing.

I have WinXP pro, IE as shipped. Anyone get this to work?

    Thx

Doesn't seem to work on mine either, XP Pro as well. What is it supposed to do?

It's supposed to navigate back/fwd in the browser. It's a function of the Alps driver, and i've seen a few other threads involving Sony notebooks where it wasn't functioning.

Thanks for confirming it's an issue - I guess I'll put a call into Sony.

On second try it does work (Helps if you have a browser window maximized), just drag finger from top center to left to go back, and top center to right to go forward. Make sure you have the web browser selected and not the Touchpad options window selected as the active window.

Still no luck with the "Web Assistant". Hmmm..do you have any "Tapping" settings selected? I have only "tap off when typing" selected.

As for XBRITE, as far as I can tell there are now two flavors of XBRITE, and the S580 has XBRITE 200, which is the older flavor. This is not easy to track down, the online manual makes no reference to XBRITE at all.

That said, the screen is plenty bright, as I'm typing on it now.

I have turned off the tapping feature (can't stand that feature). Other than that the only changes I have made, is to change Left Corner Assign to None, and Visual Feedback is disabled.
