Pluggin in the cable from my desktop into my SZ160 and it does not work
for some reason. it says limited or no connectivity although it is connected. I tried on both my desktop and my alienware and it works. what could be the problem?

Have you tried releasing and renewing your ip address through the command prompt?

I believe that's Bluetooth Local Area Connection profile you're seeing there. See the Local Area Connection one (without the 2).

Local Area Connection 2 is one for the RJ-45 jack (at least on mine it is). The port autosenses a cable with current and if correct will activate and then try and DHCP from a network.

If you are seeing nothing, then check that
    i) your ethernet cable is working,
ii) and connected to a hub/router/whatever.
iii) That the cable is the correct cable (i.e straight through cable / crossover cable)

"Media disconncted", means that it cannot detect that a cable is plugged in (or in the case of wifi or BT, that the frequencies cannot be detected)

The address you get start 169.x.x.x, and is assigned arbitarily when the O/S is set to DHCP,but cannot find a DHCP server to respond to its requests.

If this is the case, then your cable is probably OK, but whatever its connected to is not answering the DHCP request.

Check that your switch doesn't block ports, or DHCP requests to unknown MAC address, or that DHCP is configured. Perhaps, you have run out of DHCP address. CHeck your lease table on the DHCP server to see if all are used up, and release some if so, or assign more to the pool of available addresses, or reboot your DHCP server to clear the table.

If you are plugging it into a port directory on the router/switch, then try plugging it into other ports.
