I finally just bought a Sony SZ220 yesterday and from my knowledge, Sony loads the computer with a lot of unnecessary software. Could someone with an SZ tell me which software I should delete from the computer to optimize performance?

Also, If someone could tell me how I can hook up the SZ to an LCD Monitor/TV that I bought (which cables I need, etc), it would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi bob,

Congrats on your new purchase and welcome to the VAIO world...

What are you using your computer for?
The short (but unhelpful) answer for what software you should delete is basically: "Get rid of all those you don't use"

If you want to hook the computer to an LCD monitor, it's just a matter of using a VGA cable which your LCD monitor should have. Is your monitor DVI based or DSub 15pin?

Hooking your notebook to a TV is going to take more work. You'll first have to buy a TV out device. (Ask in the accessories forum for more advice) What sort of connection are you looking at? S-Video? RCA? HDMI?

    Also,

Bob...the best practice is for you to do a clean install of Windows and install the stuff you choose. This way, you'll find out exactly what you need. (And not the other way round trying to figure out what you don't need.)

It takes more time but this pays off. You'll really understand a lot more about what goes into your computer.

There are threads in this forum which guide you to that.

    Good luck.

There are many useful and informative threads scattered throughout the forum.
It would do you well to read through them.

...and, you switch cards with the Stamina-Speed switch...

Thanks a lot for the information so quickly. Im just going off to college so Ill be using the computer for the internet, games, word processing, etc.

I have a 23 inch Syntax Olevia that supports both as a TV and an PC Monitor so Id assume that I could just use the VGA input on it? Also, it does not say on the box whether the Monitor is DVI based or Dsub 15pin.

I know this is the wrong forum to ask, but does anyone have any information on the Slingbox product? How it works, channels provided, etc?

Thanks for any and all help.

    Hi bob,

You could most certainly use your VGA input for it...provided your monitor has that connection. (It would most likely have it...)

If it is DVI based, you would need to purchase the additional docking station for your SZ to have a DVI output.
