I am really pissed off. I called Sony and they said it is normal to have one or two pixel defects. Haha!! I told the rep that this is unacceptable. I said BS! So told me to call customer service tomorrow. Let's see how it goes. This is my first Sony laptop and I am very disappointed!![]()
Anyone else has the same problem??

I suggest looking on the net, there are some methods that will help remove a single dead pixel...
Some people suggest "massaging" the dead pixel will solve the issue.... This is actually the first I've heard of a dead pixel on a new Vaio SR. -
I'm pretty sure you can't 'remove' a dead pixel. if it's there, it's there forever.
sorry mate, you better check the dead pixel policy from sony, maybe you can get the screen replaced.
it is normal, dead pixels occur randomly, the more pixels you have, the higher chance of getting dead/stuck ones. -
Real sorry to hear that, I hope that it goes well tomorrow.

Well, there's a difference between a dead pixel and a stuck pixel. Dead pixels don't light up at all. Stuck pixels can sometimes be unstuck using a variety of different techniques. Many threads on here about how to do it.
That said, I had a stuck pixel on my VAIO Z that I could not unstick so I simply took advantage of SonyStyle.com and returned it for a full refund. I reordered another one that arrived defect free. The only thing I had to do was eat the cost of shipping it back to them. If you bought it elsewhere you may have to pay a restocking fee. -
A few years back i bought a T250 from sony style . It too had a single dead pixel . After arguing with support i was finally told that 2 or less dead or frozen pixels is considered a cosmetic blemish & they couldnt & wouldnt do anything about it .
Needless to say i will never buy from sony style again even if it means paying more elsewhere .
Last week i picked up a Z520N from a local best buy . Got home to find it had 2 frozen pixels . I returned it to the store & they exchanged it without any problems , if i had bought from sony style i would still be looking at frozen pixels .
To be blunt , sony's exchange policy sucks . -
I always tell people that if dead or stuck pixels concern you, then don't order through an online channel. It isn't so bad if you're from the US, as all you really have to worry about is the shipping costs involved in returning the laptop, but if you're from another country, you could be looking at a severe penalty for returning it, and depending on where you're located or the options you select for your machine, you may not be able to return it. I believe if you opt for engraving on your machine, you're pretty much out of luck.
I will never ever buy a laptop through an online channel for this exact reason. I will always settle for the best pre-configured unit available that meets my needs and if it doesn't work out, at least I have the option to return it without a costly penalty. -
I was actually set to get a SR, but when I found out that you could only get dedicated graphics on this laptop by building a CTO machine, I scratched that idea altogether. I decided to consider the Z due to it's dedicated graphics and other cool features and I am now the happy owner of one that I purchased through a retail channel.

If you bought from Sonystyle, return it. They have 30 days return policy. Tell them the dead pixels are too much for you to tolerate. Please tell us about the development.
-
Actually, you really don't need to give them a reason or call them. In your Sonystyle account you should see a red button you can click to return your product (as long as it's within 30 days). You just fill out the form and they give you an RMA number immediately that you can print out.

Read this:
There are some online shops that offer "pre-sale inspection". Next time, maybe try one of those. -
-
You could return and simply rebuy it. Just as an FYI, any notebook can come with dead pixels, and i mean any. Regardless of brand, etc. Sony is just covering their butt, but i would recommend just return and repurchasing it.
-
But in that case...sony could send him the same notebook
-
haha, well no, they would send him a similiar notebook
-
Hi all, I know I'm reviving a dead thread but a quick search of the Sony web site for "return policy" and related terms does not give me any results. Can anyone give me a pointer to something showing you can return a product no questions asked within 30 days?
I'm considering ordering a Z CTO for well over $6k delivered (basically maxed out, with the dual-SSD RAID option, Blu Ray burner, 1600x900 screen, etc.), and dead pixels would be completely unacceptable to me in this price range, but I'm very concerned that Sony will send me a unit with dead pixels, and the stories from Reseller Ratings are appalling. -
Or if you have another problem with it
(besides the dead pixel) be sure to call tech support and get it documented.
If the problem is not resolved exchange it and hopefully you wont have to pay shipping. Sometimes you have to play the game.......... -
But does their return policy PERMIT this (returns "no questions asked" within the 30 days), or do you have to find (or fabricate) something wrong with it to return it?
-
I wonder how you deal with seller if you found a dead pixel.
Just got my new SR and it has a dead pixel
