I think you saw my post last time. I got the same spec except for:

    Processor : Intel P9400 (2.53 Ghz)
Hard Drive: 320 GB SATA (7200 RPM)

I got it for $1,299 + $24 (for Sony sleeve --> need to get this to get $200 accessories bundle discount)

If your price is after tax, then you get a pretty decent deal there. Congratz!

    ------if you want to try------:
With your spec, you can get as low as $1,099 before tax. (assuming the sales guy willing to help you)

Ask for $100 student discount and $200 accessories discount (choose the cheapest accessories).

I'm looking to get a FW in the next week or so - I'm just waiting to see if I can finance it. Were both these purchased from the Sony site? Did you just call up and negotiate?

Any tips on getting the best deal? I am actually a university professor so I should get the academic discount - but what about the accessories discount?

    Thanks in advance.

I called the sales rep from SonyStyle. You need to talk to a person in order to get extra discount. Just ask them.

About bundle accessories discount, you need to ask the person and see if he/she can get it for you.The rule is to bundle ANY accessories with your laptop and you get $200 off of it. (no matter how much your accessories worth).

How is the XBRITE-FullHD display? Some people have said that the fonts are too small & cause eye strain. A couple of weeks ago I was at a SonyStyle store in NJ, but unfortunately the two demo models both had the ECO display. Right now the notebooks I'm considering are the FW, new MPB and upcoming (hopefully soon) Dell Studio XPS 16.

I'm in my 30s btw if you're wondering about the age of my eyes. :)

Sony's design and build quality blows Dell in the wind IMHO. As for FullHD, yes it is kind of bit small for my taste but it is O.K. (you gain a lot more space that way. You can open up multiple windows at once with smaller resolution). As for the brightness for FUllHD screen, it is very very good. It blows ECO out of the way indefinitely.

Yea I hate how it all depends on the sales person you get and if you're lucky and their nice, they will help you out. Otherwise even if you ask for it they won't do anything and pretend like they can't. I got $115 dicount but i couldnt get an accessories discount. :(

It takes a little getting used to. But considering that I have not seen any 1080p laptops around makes this laptop stand out. If you are getting a blu ray drive I am very sure you will want to watch hi def movies on 1080p.

The academic discount is 5%. For my laptop, they gave me $50 off, while academic discount gives $45. You can only choose either one of the discounts.
