Hey guys,
I ordered the x25-M 80 GB for my Vaio Z540. Now I am trying to decide whether to install:
* Stock Vista Home Premium 32 bit from the recovery disks and kill the installer when it starts installing crapware
* Fresh Vista 64 bit install, I have 4gb ram
* Fresh Windows 7 32\64 bit install
Last time when I tried installing windows 7, the laptop would keep getting the BSOD before and after the driver install. It was so bad that I reverted back to Vista.
Need advice guys !!!!

I say windows 7. You will boot up in less then 10 seconds.
My friend has booted windows 7 with the 32gb version of this drive in raid 0 and it booted in 3 seconds! -
win 7 is already optimized for SSD's
i went through the check list on OCZ forums and 90% of it was already set ..unlike vista
i have the 30 gig vertex -
I have the X-25M but not in RAID with Windows 7 x64 installed. I boot in about 25 seconds. For about 4-6 seconds during boot there is NO activity- not sure what Windows wait for during that time.

Yeah he has a top of the line system. 4ghz i7, 6gb ddr3, Asus Rampage,
The best part that I'm jealous of is that his brother was able to get 4 of the drives for the price of 1 when they were 600 or something dollars. So he sold 2 to my friend for 300 or something like that.
PS: That boot time does not include the POST screen. -

But I am not sure why on my Z540EAB when I install windows 7, it keeps getting BSOD and for different reasons. Sometimes it is ecache.sys, sometimes IRQ , etc. Even after all drivers are installed, and everything shows up correctly under Device manager. I have tried both 7000 build 32 bit and 7068 x64 build following instructions on the threads in the forum.
I think I am going to give it another try with the new drive. I hate the idea of opening up the whole laptop just to access the hdd tho.
I hope my laptop can boot in under 10 seconds !!!! -
Well it might not be 10. I forgot my friend had such a good computer, but I"m 95% sure you will boot up in less then 30.

I have the Intel x25 m in my macbook and love it. Just a quick note: Intel did release a new firmware upgrade for this drive on Apr.11...that solves the slowdown problem when this drive gets full over time.

Different computers boot up in different times. You can't cite a completely different computer, computer A, claim that it boots up in 30 seconds, then say computer B will boot up the at the same speed. My netbook boots up in 25 seconds, my Vaio Z boots up in well over a minute. I would like to hear the boot times for the Vaio Z though, with an SSD, if there is even a significant difference over a standard HDD. There's absolutely no guarantee that it will boot up in anything less than 1 minute, much less 10 seconds.

i get the drive tomorrow, i will let you guys know how well it works in the Z.

Ok drive is in and it is fabulous. Getting 200 to 210 Mb/s under hd tune. Everything is blazing fast. Using it with Windows 7 32 bit build 7000.
This upgrade is worth every penny. -
How fast are your boot-times?
How is performances in applications? (such as photoshop..)
I've configured my Z540 at P1 with this Intel drive and look forward to see how it performs -
insane
i got the vertex same thing pretty much my boot times are 7 sec for win 7 and 10 for vista .... but i do have it trimmed down
app times are so fast i can measure lol -
just out of curiousity, when do you people reckon that ssd's will start dropping in price? i'd love to get a 256 gb ssd in my z, but i'm not spending another ~500-750$ on it.
-
I'd wait till September, that's when the crazy fast Samsung 256GB will be out, and the rumour is that it'll be affordable($200-300)
-
so what is the bootup time on the z
-
I have been using SSD for a few years already (UX,TZ & Z), but I don't know how people make it boot for a few seconds. My Z boots around 1min 30sec. I have M$ SQL, M$ Off07, CS4-MC in Vista x64.

I would say windows 7 on the intel x25 boots in about 25 to 30 seconds. Going to sleep 5 seconds and coming out 3 seconds. I have not tweaked much, just disabled superfetch, indexing, defender and use the no gui boot option. I am sure I can reduce the boot time if i play with the registry settings some sites mention.
By the way, be really careful with the hard drive brackets when jiggling them out... they bend easy and to bend them back to perfection is hard and time consuming.
Just ordered x25-M , need help to decide what OS
