I had to send my VGN-Z90NS back to Japan for repairs (got it in September; one of the RAID drives failed). Unfortunately my backup computer (the VGN-G2) isn't powerful enough to do what I need at the moment, so I need a temporary solution. No matter what I got or where I got it, it's going to be about a 1 - 2 week solution and I know I'd have to suck up the restock fee (cheaper than not being able to do work).

The SonyStyle stores haven't received the 600 series, and since I was going to pay the 15%, I might as well see if 64-bit makes a difference. BestBuy had the Z610Y/B, and even though it's not the RAIDed SSDs, it has the 320GB 7200rpm drive and the processor is just slightly slower than the one in my Z90NS (which has the 2.53 GHz; I probably won't notice a difference in speed). Quite honestly, althought I have the RAIDed system, this one is pretty quick. The rest of this week will be telling, but I'd say at $1899 it's a pretty good bargain compared to what I paid since the two are fairly close in overall speed.

The box is not as nice as the one from Sony Japan on the outside, but is packed basically the same inside which is a good thing. The Z590UAB I owned briefly had awful packaging. It's sad when retail gets better packaging than SonyStyle.

The Z610Y/B is made in Japan, not the USA. The build quality seems to be the same as my Z90NS. All I did was take out the laptop; I'm using my existing AC adapter and battery. I hate that it has the Motion Eye and the TPM sensor (my Z90NS was configured to not have 'em), but for a temporary solution, I'll live.

Right now I'm removing all of the bloatware, but so far so good. Then I'll install my stuff and put my documents on and I'll be ready to go.

I'm assuming a lot of fellow forum members will be hoping that you upload the Z610 drivers (folder with the drivers found in the laptop) since it came with the Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS.

Won't happen anytime soon. Gig to play tonight, on a plane at 6AM, and not back until next weekend when I'm going to return this thing. I am going to burn the recovery discs which have the drivers, but there isn't much on the hdd itself in the way of installable drivers.
