Just got my new SZ1XP VAIO.

    Specs:

    T2400 1.83GHz Core Duo
    100 GB, 1GB
    etc..,.

Looks Amazing and waiting to try my hands on it.

I opened the box and checked few tests:

    1. Harddrive isnt 100GB as in specs, as total of C + D Drive is only ~80GB
    2. Fan runs almost insane. Not as quiet as I expected
    3. Lot of useless software's hanging around. Need to cleanup.

Do any one of you faced the Harddrive giving improper disc allocation problem.

I will take some snaps and comeout with 3D Marks score.

    Cheers--

the missing HD space is because of a hidden partition used for recovery purposes.....

if you do a fresh install, you can reclaim that space if you want to

indeed. the harddisk size is correct. i have no problems with my fan.

i recommend uninstalling and cleaning your registry instead of doing
a clean install, as quite some people, including me, have had prob-
lems to get everything working as it does with a recovery installation.

it's not that i would not be able eventually, but i do not want to
spend many days messing with my laptop for a marginal increase in
performance and free disk space - but that is just my opinion ;)

Any suggestions to get this fan noise sorted?

I ordered this notebook as a New one from one of the online retail market.

Dont know, if this is an Open or New item.
The notebook cover doesnt seems to be new one, scratches and looks like old.
There's no sealing on the box.
There's "Open Season Trailer" which has nothing to do with the software and normally retail stores use this trailer for notebooks showcasing to the customers.

These are worrying me, whether if this notebook might be a used / open one.

Any ideas to check for the New item?

When you first turned the machine on, did you have to go through the Windows "Set me up for the first time" screen where you set your timezone, name, agree to the license agreements, etc?

I got the laptop from eBuyer.
I ordered yesterday noon around 2-3pm and the product is in my home today morning 10am through Priority Express Service. Very impressed.

But, the packaging is not that good. The outer cover is very loosely packed leaving the inner VAIO contents to swing back & forth.

BTW, they provide some good customer support with chest & best prices and return policies.

This is my first product with them & will check the product further more and post it.

~~Misco provides excellent support and good products~~.

    Just short review:

    Sony VAIO SZ Review:

    Order & Shipping:

I placed the order through eBuyer yesterday through Priority Express Service which costs additional £4 pounds to the Standard Service and it has some reasonable cheap and best rate currently on the online retail markets.

I would say the package is not upto the mark as the outer bundle is very loosely packed. Doesn’t created a good impression

    Rating:
    Shipping: Very Good
    Packaging: Average/Not Good.

    Sony VAIO:

The impressive Intel Core Duo 1.83Ghz does its job and scores good on the 3DMarks.
This laptop is an excellent all-rounder holding all the following package in one content:

    1. Portability
    2. Power
    3. Security
    4. Bluetooth & Wireless Network
    5. Inbuilt Optical Drive
    6. Fire wire / Ports
    7. Display
    8. Stylish & very light

The Win XP OS starts up pretty faster apprx ~40-50secs. There are quite unused and useless software hanging around.

    Battery:

The battery life is not as advertised in Sony specification and lasts around 3-4 hrs. If you’re on wireless network and gaming, then your battery should reduce to 2-3 hrs.

    Rating: Average/Good

    KeyBoard:

The keyboard is nice and user friendly with large nice keypad units and user friendly. The wrist resting area is more comfortable compared to other laptops. Overall its good.

    Rating: Good

    Display:

Display is one of the best in current existing laptops. There’s little or no dead pixels and I couldn’t see any leakage around the corner. Overall its best and very good.

    Rating: Excellent

    Power/Performance:

Despite its tiny looking, this cute little lappy out performs large chunky ones. I am pretty impressed with the power and whatever thrown at it, it handles quickly and efficiently. Possibly due to the multithreaded Core Duo processors.

    Rating: Excellent

    Fan/Cooler:

I have to say that I’m not impressed with the internal fan. There always some noise even though there isn’t much programs loaded. Not sure, if any configuration needs to be tunned to get this one to sleep atleast for sometime.

    Rating: Average/Bad

Overall, this notebook is for someone looking for performance packed with portability, style and features. Its worth for the bugs you pay. My very strong recommendation, if you look a one out.
