I just received my FE890 and I already need to create a backup of the OS. I want to change out the current HDD with my Hitachi. I've been searching the program menu for almost an hour for a program to create Recovery Disks, but I have no idea where it is. Can someone please instruct me on how to backup the Vista Business Install so that I can replace my HDD? Any help on this is greatly appreciated

Why not call Sony for assistance on this matter? You should have a folder under Programs that says VAIO Recovery. You can use it to create recovery disks, but I don't know if the program will install everything on a new HDD or not. You need to contact Sony and find out what your Vista license allows you to do, etc.

I appreciate the reply. I did call Sony Customer Care for this and she pointed me to that program also. I searched and searched everywhere in the Program List, and use Vista's search function, but was unable to locate it. I'm thinking it's just a missing shortcut, or at least I'm hoping it is.

Could someone please look to see where your "Vaio Recovery" link targets too, and let me know what the .exe file is so I can search for the application? Thanks everyone.

Just an update on the issue and maybe a reference for all FE890 owners.

Both Sony Customer Care and sony online FAQs says it's under the program menu, but you will not find it there. It's located under help and support --> Backup and Recovery--> scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and you'll find it there.

I appologize, but I did do numerous searches for the file using search functions and it was not able to find the program.

    Thanks for the help.

Please follow-up on how this works out for you. I was thinking of getting the FE890 and installing a faster hard drive too. I wasn't sure how that would work out with the recovery disks.

I did the HDD swap this afternoon. Made two sets of the recovery disks just to be safe, and installed the new Hard Drive. Installed a fresh copy of Vista Business and now the Laptop is perfect. I do notice a difference in speed and load time with the Hitachi, but it does run slighly warmer, not hot, just warmer.

Was there anything in particular you needed to confirm with the recovery disks? I'm at work right now, but if you need me to verify something, let me know.

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering how you did it. I guess you just make the recovery disks, put the fresh hard drive in, and then reboot with the recovery disks?

I want to get the 890 tomorrow, but that 4200rpm hard drive has to go - it's pitiful. Where did you get the Hitachi?

I got the Hitachi from newegg.com
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146053

Yup, it was a simple swap. Take four screws off, pull out the old and take it off the HDD Tray, drop in the hitachi and do the reverse to get it back in. Placed disk one in and booted her up and that's it.

Yea, I'm using the HDD that came with the laptop with my PS3 now, and the one that came with the PS3 will be palced in an enlosure and be used as an external HDD for travel use.

Let me know if you have any more questions that I can help you out with.
