So I bought a 32GB SanDisk SSD off of ebay for $350, made an image of my 100GB drive (only 26gb used) and installed the new SSD drive. Install took maybe 30 mins and then I put the image back on my new SSD. Everything works perfectly. I was thinking as a next project I may replace my DVD drive with this Hitachi 200GB 7200 rpm drive that I bought the other day. Anyone know if A) I can put the sony dvdrw drive in an external enclosure with USB connection? or B) find a slim cheap DVDRW drive that is bootable?

    Hi
Is there a difference in speed with SSD?

A)You can buy an enclosure to make your drive USB.May be you should go through cdfreaks.com
b)There is slim USB external DVDRW but I think that's more expensive. If you don't mind the size, greg has a good one for sale in Buy/Sell forum.

Way to go! I am not a big data hog myself and a 64gb SSD would be perfect for me - I am just waiting for the prices to drop a little more.

Was the procedure challenging for you, in any way? Did you run into any difficulties while changing the drive? Does your TZ feel loose anywhere, after opening it up and closing it again? If you took any pictures of your adventure, that would be nice.

Swapping out the HDD for the SSD? Or the SDD itself? I have cloned and swapped a few HDD's and I would expect a SSD to be similar.

Yes it is very similar. The only worry I had was that the old HDD was 100GB and new one was 30GB of space, so I thought there would be an imaging problem, but since only 25GB was used on the old HDD then there was no problem putting the old image on the new SSD. Only problem I had was with hibernate taking about 3 minutes now.

Just out of curiosity has anyone thought of or tried to use a zif to CF adapter and buy a 32gb CF card as a SSD? It would cost about $160 for 32GB. ANy thoughts on speed, usability, etc?
