Anyone use one of Kensington's universal power supplies with their VGN-SR? Trying to figure out which "smart tip" to use.

Their compatibility wizard on the Kensington website doesn't list the VGN-SR290; only lists a Vaio SR series. I think this may be referring to an older series and not the VGN-SR line. The tip the wizard recommends for this 'Vaio SR series" is N15, which, according to the power supply instrcution manual has output volatge of 15-17V. Another tip, tip N27, has output volatge of 17-20V. The power brick that came with my SR290 indicates a 19.5V output (Sony VGP-AC19V25 - 19.5V, 4.7a)

Don't want to use a wrong tip and hurt my notebook.

    Any help out there?

Kensington tech support via e-mail has been useless. Basically, they say they think the N27 will work but they don;t endorse using any tip where the notebook in question is not specifically listed (which I guess means they tested it sonehow)

Which Kensington do you have? I have the Wall Notebook Power Adapter (K33404 I think). It does not list specific models but I just tried it using the G tip, making sure the 17-21V switch is selected on the brick. It worked fine on my FW290 CTO.

    Cheers,

I have the 33197 thin and light 120W wall/auto/air adapter. The N27 seesm to work - just don't want to harmt he battery or anything else by using too little/too much current

Well, first acrosss-country trip and I bit the bullet. Got me a checkpoint-friendly laptop bag which was considerably smaller than my normal brut of a briefcase and thus forced myself into carrying less and trying the Kensington (without the Sony power brick backup!).

So far so goodd - charge an almost dead battery to 80% (use the battery fundtion) w/Kensington power supply before trip - used laptoip on plane, and, with my custom power settings, got over 3 hours up time on plane. Now have re-charged battery in hotel and all is goo so far. Took battery out when it reached 80% recahrge and am now on Kensington N27 tip power only. Fingers crossed for no issues!
