I hate sony keyboard on sz model, it's cramped and not same thinkpad ? How do you think about it ! why sony developt more comfortable keyboard.
-
Nobodys is as good as the ThinkPad, so no shame there.
-
he....try the dell 710m and you'll adore the sz's.
-
-
i have no problems with it yet; in fact, as i use one of those
flexible/waterproof keyboards with my desktop system, the
keys on my sz1xp/c are even larger than the ones on that one.
so it's anything by cramped to me.
but i'm still getting used to the locations of delete/end/etc,
but that's just a matter of time.
if people don't like their laptop - get a different one =] -
Cramped? Huh?
-
yes, and

The keyboard is terrible--well below average, Keyboard takes a little getting used to, mushy and have sharp edges that tend to cath your fingers. (i'm not a touch typist) There is also a lot of keyboard and deck flex when you type. -
Well, I had been using Presario all along before SZ and frankly I hardly find a difference. The keyboard is full size (except the right hand side SHIFT key... but thats minor).... full size is what is most important for me... I like the Home/PgUp/PgDn/End last column.... prefer it anyday over the Pgup/PgDn in Dell which reside in the top right corner...
As good as Thinkpad...No! But cramped... Not at all! -
I think the keyboard is most important of laptop ! keyboard sony very poor!
-
The keyboard of thinkpad is alway the best in the world of laptop !
-
So, naturally, that begs the question: if you're so fond of Thinkpad keyboards, why didn't you buy a Thinkpad?
-
No one here is saying that the SZ's keyboard is better than that of the ThinkPad. There's no argument that ThinkPad keyboards are best in class. So let's stop this pointless repeated posting of a statement that everyone agrees with. If you want the best keyboard, get a ThinkPad. The slightly "inferior" keyboard of the SZ is a minor tradeoff for a machine that weighs almost a FULL TWO POUNDS less than a comparably equipped ThinkPad, not to mention a screen that blows away anything IBM/Lenovo has ever put on the market...

Well, as a longtime Thinkpad evangelist and somebody who also tends to know Sony Vaios a little bit, I can say the following about the SZ-keyboards.
Even the SZ-keyboards may not have the overall great tactile feeling of a Thinkpad keyboard, they have at least good sized keys for a notebook of this size. The only complain and thing I personally would possibly have to learn to get used to on a SZ-keyboard is, the somehow small keystroke travel of the keys themself. The keyboard layout itself and the overall key dimensions are fine and usable after some short training period.
However, what I generally hate on nowadays notebook keyboards, no matter which brand they are finally from, is that nearly all them have mostly flimsy thin key diameters, which always reminds me to thin consecrated wafers, which do easily break. It seems the times are gone, where notebooks had sturdy and well equiped keyboards which are a pleasure to write on. Everybody who still owns old notebooks (like a Thinkpad 770/600/560, an old Tecra or Compaq etc. should pretty much know what I mean. -
Well said, javylsu.
I don't mind the keyboard, and personally, the layout is something I find very important...
I prefer the layout of the keys, with the big page up / page down / home / end keys at right... that's what I'm used to, since I use Shift-Home / Shift-End a lot when I'm typing documents to move to the front and back of sentences. -
i think you need to stay w IBM =)
-
ok we'll agree that the IBM's keyboard is king if you agree that the SZ's design is simply gorgeous compared to the same ol' IBM.
-
ok, but sony sz seem weak , easy break , LCD very nice but some error some point white on LCD. ?
-
-
I disagree on the keyboard, its absolutely flawless on my SZ. I guess im used to different laptop keyboards, already owned many makes. My last notebook HP ZV5000 had a similar keyboard and I have to say the only difference that I find is that the SZ keys are a bit wider but thats a good thing for me.
-
Well at first I was not happy with the keyboard, but after a few hours of using it, I like it. If anything, I think that the keys are actually larger than most and they are not sharp at all on the edges.
I guess it just takes getting used to, but if you are not happy with it and prefer a different laptop, then you should get rid of it!
ETA: I got mine last week and do not have a the space bar problem that others have written about. -
