    Hi all,

Its a Sony Vaio VGN-Z16GN model No PCG-6X7P.

I have attached one photo showing the keyboard connector to the motherboard (it sits between the connectors for hard drive and dvd-rom drive).

I have also attached a photo showing the underside of the keyboard which shows where the ribbon cable connects.

The reason for the disassembly was I was trying to replace a faulty screen. Overall, this thing was just so hard to disassemble (never seen anything like it but I don't work on a lot of Sony's usually). Must have taken near on 3 hrs to finally detach the screen from the rest of the laptop. I was as careful and deliberate as possible. Before ordering a replacement screen, I tested to see if everything was still working. Everything ok except for the keyboard.

The hard drive and cd-rom work fine so the motherboard appears to be ok for the mostpart. I dont recall having any incidents when removing the keyboard initally. The connector on the motherboard is impossible to break as the ribbon cable can be simply removed with gentle force. The connector on the underside of the keyboard uses the more common plastic clip-in system. If you look at the picture closely, you will see that the creme plastic connector has been broken. However, this I don't believe is the cause of the fault. It got broken well after I realised the keyboard wasn't working. I thik I broke it when I was trying to figure out why the ribbon cable kept slipping out of the connector.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I am thinking about ordering a replacement ribbon cable and also the circuit board that sits underneath the keyboard (directly under the track pad). Am I wasting my time?

There is just so little info about this unit on the web. So finding these parts and even the replacement screen looks like its going to be a mission.
