    Hello All,

I am getting ready to buy a TX this weekend and was looking for advice on what I should check on the computer before I take it home.

I already plan on bringing “Dead Pixel Buddy” on a Key Drive, anybody got any other input?

    Thanks,
    Fandarel

Based on the only other real complaints I've heard/read about the TX, here's what I suggest...

If there's a demo unit on their sales floor, compare the screens for "whiteness". There's been some talk of a yellowish hue on some of them. Thankfully, my screen is very nice and bright white.

Check the extent of the "wave" in the keyboard. Everyone seems to have a slight rising of the keyboard to the left of the touchpad. Mine is very slight... almost unnoticable... and peaks at the "X" key. My keyboard is nice and firm and does not flex at all when I'm typing.

With the lid closed, look at the unit from the side and make sure you can see daylight all the way through. Reports of the keys hitting and marring the screen when its close have cropped up now and then. I can see daylight through mine but still, I always use the thin piece of foam paper that came with the unit as a precautionary measure.

That's all I can think of. I wish you luck. I love my TX850 and think it's a great machine. Let us know how it goes.

I ran Dead Pixel Buddy infront of them. They were kinda piss because I search like ever mm on the screen.

The sad thing is if you do find 1 or 2 dead/stuck pixel and you want to exchange it, you have to wait like 1 week.

Good luck and hope you get a perfect one!

Yeah, you posted this on siliconpopculture.com as well. Well, a user there said that some TX's do use different screens unfortunately, with some being dimmer and having a yellowish hue than others but you won't notice it unless you compare two TX screens side by side.

Yeah, my spacebar is slightly raised on the left side but its really minor so whatever. Overall, a great machine, but I keep feeling that because of TXs having different screens, that I have a bad one? :( :( :(

Did you get that white-banded screen replaced? If I read your post right, I assume the answer to that question would be "yes". If so, why do you think your replacement screen is a "bad" one? Do you see a yellowish hue?

    Just curious.
